Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater kicks off a five-week holiday season on Wednesday, November 29 with a star-studded gala benefit, including a performance at New York City Center, and dinner-party at the New York Hilton Midtown Grand Ballroom. The gala honors Ailey Board President Debra L. Lee (Chairman and Chief Executive Office of BET Networks) for her commitment to the advancement of arts and culture and her dedication to the organization, which has helped steer Ailey to success since she joined the board in 2002. Honorary chairs for the evening are music and film stars Queen Latifah and Janelle Mon e.

The first portion of the night was dedicated to the ballet class for students representing both the Dance Theatre of Harlem and the Harlem School for the Arts. As a teacher, Copeland embodied gentle, down-to-earth authority, unopposed to getting on the floor to adjust a stance or hold up a limb. With a focus on proper technique, her descriptive breakdown of the body mechanics at work in each exercise, made the tasks easy to understand and her encouraging demeanor exuded both patience and humor.

Jacob's Pillow Dance celebrates the impact of its visionary 85th Anniversary Festival and the achievement of important milestones marked by Director Pamela Tatge's first programmed season. The 2017 Festival season boasted over 500 free and ticketed performances, events, classes, Pillow Pop-Up performances, and new initiatives, culminating in over 111,000 festival experiences, the highest number ever accounted for.

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts announces over 20 newly booked events to accompany the already-announced 2017-18 season. Highlights include internationally-acclaimed stars of rock, comedy, dance, and even politics as well as Tony Award-nominated Broadway titles. Tickets for these shows are on sale now to Kimmel Center members and will be available to the general public on September 9. Membership starts at $75 and guarantees access to the best seats. The below shows are in addition to the previously announced lineup including over 40 shows.
