Premier Flamenco & Spanish Dance Company to Perform at The Alden in McLean, 11/1

One of the nation's premier flamenco and Spanish dance companies, New York's Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, will perform 'The Soul of Flamenco' for a single night at The Alden in McLean. The show will be presented at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1. Tickets are $30, $20 for McLean tax district residents. The Alden is housed in the McLean Community Center, which is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

Today, October 4, Target First Saturday celebrates the vibrant Latino communities in and around Brooklyn through music, talks, and dance. Highlights include music by La Mecánica Popular, a talk by journalist and filmmaker Raquel Cepada, and a social club with dancers from Global Rhythms leading rumba and salsa lessons.

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts to Present Flamenco Vivo, 11/14

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College continues its 60th Anniversary Season on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 8pm with Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, this premier company will perform 'The Soul of Flamenco,' a passionate new production that embodies the purity of traditional flamenco and classical Spanish dance. Tickets are $40/$30 (orchestra/mezzanine) and can be purchased at BrooklynCenter.org or by calling the box office at 718-951-4500 (Tues-Sat, 1pm-6pm).

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts Announces 60th Anniversary World Dance Series

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College is pleased to announce its 2014-15 60th Anniversary world dance series. Since the inception of the dance series in 1966, more than 175 regional, national and international companies have premiered new works as a part of this series. This year's lineup includes Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana's The Soul of Flamenco, Nai-Ni Chin Dance Company performing a Lunar New Year Celebration, the Moscow City Ballet's production of Don Quixote, and the return of the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica (NDTC). These companies reflect the artistic excellence and cultural diversity to which Brooklyn Center is dedicated.

¡Fiesta! Celebrating Hispanic and Latin American Cultures—a museum-wide cultural celebration held during Hispanic Heritage Month with an emphasis on family programming—will be presented on Saturday, October 5, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art by the Museum's Multicultural Audience Development Initiative and the Museum's Education Department. The Metropolitan's sixth annual ¡Fiesta! will feature programs for all ages from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., offering visitors exhibition-inspired art-making workshops, music performances, a poetry workshop, and other exciting activities related to Precolumbian, Spanish, and Latin American art from the Museum's collection. All of the ¡Fiesta! events are free with Museum admission.

Catskill Mountain Foundation Launches Orpheum Dance Festival

The Catskill Mountain Foundation (CMF) announced today the launch of its inaugural Orpheum Dance Festival at the new Orpheum Performing Arts Center in Tannersville, New York. The theater, designed by acclaimed theater architect Hugh Hardy, provides a rare combination of state-of-the-art proscenium dance stage with splendid acoustics. The festival's centerpiece is a performance by the world renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company on May 22, which complements a larger three-week performance residency by Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company (Taylor 2) from May 6 to May 26, 2013.

Reissa Celebrates Hanukkah at Museum of Jewish Hertitage, 12/12

On Sunday, December 12 at 2:30 p.m., join Tony nominee and international concert artist Eleanor Reissa and friends for a delightful afternoon of Yiddish and English music and humor. Reissa, one of the world's most important interpreters of Yiddish song, will perform in her only New York City appearance this year at the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust. Her band of musical luminaries is led by Frank London of the Klezmatics and features Marty Confurius on the upright bass; Rex Benincasa on percussion and drums; slide trombone player Brian Drye; and pianist and accordion player Patrick Farrell.
