Review: A WOMAN OF NO IMPORTANCE at Taproot Theatre
by Kelly Rogers Flynt - Jan 28, 2023

A WOMAN OF NO IMPORTANCE is ironically an important work by none other than the esteemed Oscar Wilde. A thinking man’s comedy, Wilde imbues this work with witty banter while challenging society’s norms. The clips along with a steady stream of laughs punctuated by occasions of loud guffaws and eye-popping truths. You will be charmed. You will be delighted. You will be entertained.

Taproot Theatre to Stage LE CLUB NOEL, 11/29-12/28
by Tyler Peterson - Oct 25, 2013

Taproot Theatre presents Le Club Noel, an original Christmas play by Seattle playwrights and performers Candace and Sam Vance. Step into a 1930's Parisian Cabaret and fall under the spell of Le Club Noel, where the band is hot and the songs sung by a beautiful chanteuse. Together they create music to awaken love in the coldest of hearts. With money scarce, and WWII on the horizon, this close-knit band of musicians reminds us that Christmas has always been a time for miracles. Associate Artistic Director Karen Lund directs Le Club Noel which opens on November 29 and runs through December 28 with low-price previews on November 22 and 23 and a pay-what-you-can performance on November 27. Early bird pricing is available for performances on December 4 and 5.

BWW Reviews: SPT's THE LANGUAGE ARCHIVE Explores Love Beyond Words
by Jay Irwin - May 24, 2013

For a show that is all about words and how to express them correctly, it sometimes feels that Julia Cho's "The Language Archive" could have done a little better expressing them efficiently. Occasionally the show tends to drone on and could have ended a few times. Fortunately the cast in Seattle Public Theater's production is so engaging that those droning moments dissipate quickly and what's left is an intriguingly sweet love story.

by BWW News Desk - Oct 22, 2011

Taproot Theatre brings the work of one of Britain's wittiest playwrights to the stage this fall with Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband. Dandies and diamonds swirl in and out of this comedic classic. Sir Robert appears to be the ideal husband, until a choice from early in his career comes back to haunt him. Can he be restored to his adoring wife or will the truth be everyone's undoing? This smart satire sparkles with wit and romance. Written by Oscar Wilde and directed by Karen Lund, An Ideal Husband opens on September 23 and runs through October 22, with previews on September 21 and 22.

BWW Reviews: THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR from Seattle Shakespeare Company
by BWW News Desk - May 15, 2011

Seattle Shakes is rounding out their 20th Anniversary season with Shakespeare's comedy "The Merry Wives of Windsor". And after starting out their Anniversary season with the sublime "Hamlet" (which I still can't stop thinking about) and then putting up their rollicking version of "The Threepenny Opera", it's a shame they finished off with a whimper rather than a bang with this production which, while having its moments of fun, came across as uneven, unfocused and at times confusing.

But is his impossible dream madness or vision? The trial is about to begin. Man of La Mancha provides a glimpse into the Spanish literature that inspired Picasso, before Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris opens at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) in October. Inspired by Spanish writers including Cervantes, Picasso wove characters such as Don Quixote-a revolutionary like himself-into some of his art. Man of La Mancha, directed by producing artistic director Scott Nolte with musical direction by Edd Key, opens on July 9 and runs through August 7, with low-price previews on July 7 and 8, plus a pay-what-you-can performance on July 14.
