Artemisia Announces New Production Model
by A.A. Cristi - Jun 13, 2018

Artemisia is Chicago's premiere theatre for the development and production of all new feminist plays that center on women who have agency, independence, and are the focal point of their own narratives. Our annual fall festival features six full-length, women-empowering plays discovered through a passionate search by our artistic staff. Each play is read only once and followed by a dedicated audience discussion focused by two questions - Does the Play Empower Women? Does the Play challenge you to see women in a new light? Artemisia's Artistic Director chooses a play from the festival to undergo an exciting development process that celebrates the playwright's unique feminist voice and engages our audience directly in workshops and discussion, leading to a premiere production in Chicago. In years prior, audiences were asked to vote for their favorite Fall Festival play and the play would be produced the following year.
