BWW CD Reviews: Broadway Records' FROM BROADWAY WITH LOVE is Heartfelt

On January 28, 2013 more than 100 Broadway stars joined with over 300 students from several Newton dance groups, the Sandy Hook Elementary School 3rd and 4th grades (2012/2013 school year), and the Newton High School Chamber Choir (2012/2013 school year) to present FROM BROADWAY WITH LOVE: A BENEFIT CONCERT FOR SANDY HOOK. The event was a heartfelt concert of healing, and today Broadway Records is releasing a two-CD recording of the concert. Also, Broadway Records is donating 100% of its profits from the CD, DVD (also released today), and Blu-Ray (releasing February 18th) to support the Newtown-Sandy Hook community via the Newton-Sandy Hook Community Foundation.
Urban Stages to Present CHARACTER MAN, A MUSICAL MEMOIR, 2/28-3/30

Urban Stages Founding Artistic Director Frances Hill and producer Peter Napolitano present the World Premiere of Character Man as part of its 30th Anniversary season. Jim Brochu's new musical memoir begins an Off-Broadway run at Urban Stages Theatre (259 West 30th Street) February 28th, with opening night set for Wednesday March 5th. This limited run will continue through March 30th only. Robert Bartley directs, with musical direction by Carl Haan. Character Man will have scenic & video design by Patrick Brennan, lighting design by Meghan Santelli and sound design by Sean Hagerty.

Coming up on Friday, February 28 at 9:00PM EST, PBS will present the national, TV broadcast premiere of Jazz and the Philharmonic, a co-production by the National YoungArts Foundation-a national organization that identifies and supports the next generation of artists-the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, and JAZZ ROOTS Producer Larry Rosen. Jazz and the Philharmonic was presented and filmed at the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center on January 11, 2013 and is a unique and wholly American concert experience which highlights two of the greatest musical art forms, classical and jazz. The Colony Theatre will present Stephanie Zimbalist starring in SEX AND EDUCATION, written by Lissa Levin and directed by Andrew Barnicle. SEX AND EDUCATION will preview on Wednesday, February 12; Thursday, February 13; and Friday, February 14 at 8:00pm and will open on Saturday, February 15 at 8:00pm and continue through Sunday, March 16 at the Colony Theatre, 555 N. Third Street (at Cypress) adjacent to the Burbank Town Center Mall.

Broadway composer and lyricist John Bucchino and bookwriter Mads Nielsen's Danish-American romantic musical drama ESAURA, recently conluded a Fall 2013 run at the Fredericia Teater. The plot of the new musical is based on a free adaptation of the 1905 novel by Carl E. Simonsen 'Abraham Fournais' and has parallels to the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet. The musical drama is set during the aftermath of the Battle of Fredericia and tells a fascinating story about human relationships. In short, it is a story with universal appeal played out in a Danish historical setting.

Muny Executive Producer Mike Isaacson announced today the directors, choreographers and music directors for the Muny's 2014 Season, which opens on June 16 with Billy Elliot The Musical. "We're so happy these exciting artists are creating our 2014 season," said Isaacson. "This is a challenging season, one with incredible variety and power.
