From writer, executive producer and series' showrunner Veena Sud ('Cold Case'), 'The Killing' is based on the wildly successful Danish television series 'Forbrydelsen.' It tells the story of the murder of a young girl in Seattle and the subsequent police investigation. Season one consists of thirteen, one-hour episodes.

Hana Sharif has been named associate artistic director of Hartford Stage, the Hartford Courant's Behind the Curtain blog reports. Sharif will succeed Jeremy B. Cohen, who is to become producing director of Minneapolis's The Playwrights Center, on August 9.

The Irish play that led to riots in the streets of Dublin when it debuted 103 years ago and became a comic masterpiece, The Playboy of the Western World, opens the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival's 19th season. With previews June 16 and 17, the play opens June 18 in the Schubert Theatre and continues through July 3.

Hartford Stage has announced a dynamic 2010-2011 season which includes Tony winners Ben Vereen and Chita Rivera in their SummerStage program. Both will be presenting back to back solo shows each with one week runs at the Roberts Theatre just outside of Hartford. Rivera will play there June 22 to 27 and Vereen July 6 to 11.
