Valley Youth Theatre (VYT) will open the final production in the theatre company's 30th season, Disney's Freaky Friday, The Musical, on Friday, June 14, at The Herberger Theater Center. Awards being presented to honorees at the 38th annual Governor's Arts Awards have been created by nine Arizona artists. Twenty-one 2019 Governor's Arts Awards finalists in seven categories have been selected from communities around the state. Honorees will be announced on Thursday, March 7 at the Renaissance Downtown Phoenix, 100 N. 1stStreet.

The Arizona premiere of Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical is presented by Valley Youth Theatre (VYT), October 12-28, at 525 North First Street, in Downtown Phoenix. This is the second production in the theatre's thirtieth season and the first time this new musical has been performed by a youth cast. Written by Douglas Lyons, Melvin Tunstall III and Greg Borowsky, it was inspired by the true events of civil rights pioneers Ruby Bridges and The Little Rock Nine and is produced by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, (www.broadwaylicensing.com).
This reviewer is in awe of what he saw opening weekend of Valley Youth Theatre's production of NEWSIES The Musical: A spectacular triumph of talent and artistry, all the more impressive because of the amazing young performers (ages 12 to 18!) whose versatility and range of technical proficiency is jaw-dropping. Kale Burr is terrific! Tony Spinosa's choreography is tremendous! So is the entire ensemble! An auspicious way to begin the company's 30th Anniversary Season! The production is presented by Valley Toyota Dealers and sponsored in part by Edward Jones. It is directed by VYT's Producing Artistic Director of 22 years, Bobb Cooper.
