World premieres, new writers and ground-breaking adaptations have been announced for 2017 at the National Theatre.

Hennepin Theatre Trust today announced the Tony Award-winning lineup for the 2017-2018 Bank of America Broadway on Hennepin Season, featuring seven Minnesota premieres and three returning favorites.

The 1951 film, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, was recently broadcast on Turner Classic Movies, and I had a chance to watch it before attending the recent musical adaptation that is currently playing the Fox Theatre. The film is a classic, and I'm happy to report that the new musical version is an excellent take on the story. Filled with wonderful "triple threat" (acting, dancing, singing) performances that do more than justice to the original work, this is an uplifting, amusing, and immensely entertaining production that I cannot recommend highly enough. Julia Hoffmann is currently swinging her way across the United States in the national tour of 'Once' understudying Girl, Ex-Girlfriend, and Reza. Based on the Academy Award-winning film, the Tony Award-winning musical 'Once' shares the story of how music not only composes melodies but also love between different people from around the globe. With an incredible score by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova and book by Enda Walsh, audiences have been falling (slowly) in love with this beautiful and honest production since its first performance on Broadway in 2012.
