After last month's announcement that the Tony Award-winning musical An American in Paris would close on January 1, 2017 at Broadway's Palace Theatre, the musical's producers have just confirmed an earlier closing date.

Deemed 'a triumph' (Telegraph, U.K.) at its premiere by The Royal Ballet at Covent Garden in April 2014 and 'a major artistic achievement' (Toronto Star) when it was presented by The National Ballet of Canada this past November, THE WINTER'S TALE is the work of one of today's most acclaimed and in-demand choreographers, Christopher Wheeldon. 

Irene Bunis, the veteran wardrobe supervisor for many Broadway productions since 1980, passed away on July 21st in New York City.

Just announced, the Tony Award-winning musical An American in Paris will close on Sunday, January 1, 2017. Since the first performance at Broadway's Palace Theatre on March 13, 2015, An American in Paris will have played 719 regular performances and 29 previews.

Production images for ALADDIN have been released today ahead of its official opening night at the Prince Edward Theatre on Wednesday 15 June. Disney's new West End musical began preview performances on Friday 27 May and tickets for the spectacular production are now on sale for performances up to and including 11 February 2017. There is a shake-up in the creative team for Disney's Broadway-bound FROZEN. According to Variety, Tony winner Christopher Gattelli (NEWSIES) will join as choreographer in place of Peter Darling (MATILDA, BILLY ELLIOT). Darling reportedly departs the production due to conflicts with another new musical- GROUNDHOG DAY, which is due to premiere in London later this year.

With 315 hours of rehearsals now complete; 68 tonnes of scenery hung at the Prince Edward Theatre; and 337 custom-designed, hand-made costumes created from over 1,225 varieties of fabric, adorned with millions of Swarovski crystals, Disney's new musical Aladdin will begin previews in the West End tonight.

Once is definitely not your typical Broadway musical. It does not implement nor does it require the razzle dazzle that is usually typical of musical theatre. Instead there is a subtle intimacy and ease to the storytelling. From the moment you enter the theatre, you are transported to another place, a Dublin bar to be exact. The show uses creative staging as the audience is able to traverse the stage to buy a drink at the bar and are then surrounded by the actors/musicians as they jam out to some Irish folk music.

Legendary scenic and costume designer, MICHAEL YEARGAN (currently represented on Broadway with Fiddler on the Roof and The King and I), and costume designer SUSAN TSU are among the 2016 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards recipients. Disney just held its developmental lab for the Broadway-bound FROZEN, and new details on what promises to be the Great White Way's next blockbuster have emerged from the ice.

Ahead of its West End premiere at the Prince Edward Theatre, rehearsal images for ALADDIN have been released today. The new Disney musical previews from May 27, opening on June 15, and is booking till October 1. Dean John-Wilson stars as Aladdin, alongside Jade Ewen as Jasmine, Broadway cast member Trevor Dion Nicholas as Genie, Don Gallagher as Jafar, Peter Howe as Iago, Irvine Iqbal as the Sultan, Nathan Amzi as Babkak, Stephen Rahman-Hughes as Kassim and Rachid Sabitri as Omar.

San Diego Opera is proud to continue its tradition of presenting new or rarely performed works when it presents the west coast premiere of Great Scott, the new opera from composer Jake Heggie (Moby-Dick, Dead Man Walking, Three Decembers) and librettist Terrence McNally (Dead Man Walking, Three Decembers, and the plays Mother and Sons, Love! Valour! Compassion!, The Fully Monty). They are joined by veteran stage director and former director of San Diego's Old Globe Theatre, Jack O'Brien, who will stage the opera. Great Scott opens on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 7 PM for four performances at the San Diego Civic Theatre and is a co-production with The Dallas Opera. Disney's Broadway-bound FROZEN has officially found its Anna for this week's developmental lab!

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS will launch a national tour in Boston at the Citi Wang Theatre October 25-November 6, following a preview period at Proctor's in Schenectady, NY. As previously announced, Garen Scribner,currently playing Jerry Mulligan in the Broadway production, will star in the tour along with Sara Esty, who plays Lise Dassin at various performances on Broadway. Additional casting for the tour will be announced in the coming months.
