Bay Area Cabaret continues its 2011-2012 season December 11, 2011 with Grammy Award nominee and internationally-renowned jazz vocalist Stacey Kent, making her first Bay Area appearance in more than six years.

The African American experience is not represented solely by one voice or one style. For the third year in a row Horse Trade Theater Group will present The Fire This Time Festival, providing a platform for talented early-career playwrights of African and African-American descent to explore new voices, styles, and challenging new directions for 21st century performing arts in order to move beyond common misconceptions of what's possible in 'black theater.'

In Sing the Truth, a New York/New Jersey metro-area exclusive that comes to NJPAC's Prudential Hall on December 18, 2011 at 3pm, three great women of contemporary song - multilingual singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo, Grammy-winning jazz legend Dianne Reeves and jazz/gospel-inspired diva Lizz Wright - pay tribute to three recently departed legends: Miriam Makeba, Abbey Lincoln, and Odetta.

Paulette Dozier has produced two very well received CDs; With You (2005), and Over & Over (2007), and is planning to release a third album in the fall of 2012.The Carbonell Award nominated actress will appear as jazz great Billie Holiday in the Boca Raton Theatre Guild's production of 'Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill' in late April.

'Billie's Blues', an original stage play written by D/FW playwright diannetucker and directed by Sheran Goodspeed Keyton, follows the incredible yet tumultuous life of the late great American jazz singer Billie Holiday through stories and of course, soul-stirring songs.

Merging the vanguard of Polish theatre artists with America's most innovative contemporary music composers, Mozart's Sister tells the story of the keyboard virtuoso, composer, and child prodigy in her own right - Nannerl Mozart. This other Mozart toured throughout Europe, performing side by side with her brother Amadeus, to equal acclaim. Yet none of her compositions have survived and today hardly anyone knows she existed. Using Nannerl's own letters and those of her family, the performance investigates how this female prodigy, this Mozart, faded from the world - and whether this loss was inevitable.

Returning to the Royal Room for her sixth engagement since 2003, Baby Jane Dexter is a 'triple crown winner' in cabaret, having received two Bistro awards from Back Stage, six top vocalist awards from the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs (MAC) and both the 2009 and 2010 Nightlife Award for top cabaret singer. She will be celebrating the release of her new live CD, The Real World on Quannacut Records. Following a sold out run in New York City, The Real World is a powerful, inspiring and funny potpourri of unique songs and arrangements given Ms. Dexter's one of a kind haunting spin. The eclectic song list includes gems by the likes of Billie Holiday, Janis Ian, Roy Orbison, John Sebastian, Alec Wilder and many more. This new show promises potent musical moments along with the singer's trademark blend of profound and artistically whimsical bon mots. As always, Baby Jane challenges as much as she inspires. That is the hallmark that has sustained her remarkable career. The show's musical director is Ross Patterson.
