Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, beloved as one of the world's most popular dance companies, will travel coast to coast beginning in February on a 23-city North American tour hitting major markets such as Atlanta, Miami, Boston, Washington, D.C., and Chicago (full schedule below). The 25th season since the passing of legendary founder Alvin Ailey is led by Artistic Director Robert Battle who continues to expand the Company's diverse repertory with a wide range of important choreographic voices. Exciting premieres and new productions give Ailey's 30 extraordinary dancers even more ways to inspire audiences.

New York Live Arts will present the U.S. premieres of Israeli choreographer Arkadi Zaides and musical quartet Quator Leonis' A response to Dig Deep, tonight, October 10 at 7:30pm and French artist Jeanne Mordoj's La Poeme October 11 & 12 at 7:30pm. Co-presented with Villa Gillet's Walls and Bridges Festival, Live Arts continues its partnership with the Franco-American arts and ideas series.

New York City's dance luminaries, rising stars, and fans were out in full force at the fabled Apollo Theater in Harlem on the evening of Monday, October 7th 2013 to attend the 29th annual Bessies Awards. The ceremony, named for contemporary dance legend Bessie Schonberg and produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, recognizes established as well as upcoming artists who have made outstanding contributions to the many disciplines of the liveliest art in the Dance Mecca of the World.

The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), NYC's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced tonight the complete list of winners for the 2012-13 season. The Bessies, produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, were held at the legendary Apollo Theater at 8:00 p.m., following red carpet interviews and photographs with the nominees in attendance. Former Cunningham dancer Gus Solomons jr. and former American Ballet Theatre principal Martine Van Hamel co-hosted the evening and also performed Paul Taylor's rarely seen 1957 Duet as part of the evening's performances.

Jacob's Pillow Dance and MASS MoCA co-present inventive, contemporary ensemble Shen Wei Dance Arts on October 26 and 27 at MASS MoCA's Hunter Center for the Performing Arts. Led by Chinese-born American choreographer Shen Wei, the New York-based dance company blends his signature movement vocabulary with elements of film, theater, new media, and visual art. The program includes Shen Wei's interpretation of Rite of Spring (2003), in honor of the original production's 100th year, and striking new work Collective Measures (2013). The company's performances coincide with the final weekend of MASS MoCA's Xu Bing: Phoenix exhibit, an installation featuring two monumental birds fabricated wholly from materials reaped from construction sites in urban China.

New York Live Arts begins the 2013-14 Studio Series work-in-process showings with Elena Demyanenko and Dai Jian's collaborative work, Blue Room, tonight and tomorrow, October 4th and 5th at 6:00pm, in the third floor studios at New York Live Arts. A 2013-14 Dance Theater Workshop Commissioning Fund Commission, the Studio Series showing of Blue Room will precede the world premiere of the complete work to be shown in New York Live Arts' Theater in February 2014.

New York Live Arts will present, as part of the Replay Series, works by Molissa Fenley spanning more than thirty years of her choreographic experiments in two varied programs tonight, October 2 - 5 at 7:30pm, with a lecture demonstration October 5 at 3:00pm. Fenley will present the world premiere of Found Object, the reconstructed solos The Floor Dances and Witches' Float, and the quartet Energizer, bridging her choreographic past with the present.

Jonathan Groff to Make Ravinia Debut on 12/7

Jonathan Groff will make his Ravinia debut on December 7th of this year, in Bennett Gordon Hall. For this performance, Jonathan Groff will be accompanied by Marie-Mitchell Campbell on the piano. Tickets begin at $40 and include both entry to the show along with a dining package and free parking in the South Lot. The doors open at 6:30 for dinner and immediately following dinner, the doors will open for Jonathan Groff's performance at 8:30.
