The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) revealed today the complete schedule for the 24th Annual Fall Festival, 88 events which will explore the theme of Animal: What Makes Us Human, Oct. 13 on the Northwestern Universitycampus, Oct. 20 on the University of Chicago campus, and Nov. 1-10 at venues across Chicago. This year's presenters include political consultant and former Senior Advisor to President Obama David Axelrod, revolutionary chef, restaurateur, and TV personalityRick Bayless, celebrated author of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and Eating Animals Jonathan Safran Foer, Tony Award-winning choreographer and Kennedy Center Honors recipient Bill T. Jones, 59 Grand Slam title-winning tennis player Martina Navratilova, critically-acclaimed director of Boys Don't Cry and the upcoming film remakeCarrie Kimberly Peirce, Boardwalk Empire and Man of Steel actor Michael Shannon as a featured performer in White Rabbit, Red Rabbit, author of A Series of Unfortunate EventsLemony Snicket (Daniel Handler), and many more.

Verb Ballets Presents New Works at Cain Park Summer Series Tonight

Verb Ballets returns to the Cain Park Evans Amphitheater tonight, August 3, 2013, at 8pm. The 2013-14 season will fuse the elements of culture, dance and music for an exciting season of premieres. This show at Cain Park will highlight the next generation of emerging choreographers, Daryl Gray, Tommie-Waheed Evans and Antonio Brown while honoring late choreographer, Heinz Poll, who forged the path for new ideas in dance. 'Verb Ballets thrives on performing repertory by notable choreographers as well as collaborating with artists to create new work. We are excited to be opening our season, FUSE, at Cain Park,' said director of Verb Ballets, Dr. Margaret Carlson.

New York Live Arts to Present THE INKOMATI (DIS)CORD, 9/25-26; HA!, 9/27-28

New York Live Arts will kick off their 2013-2014 presenting season with the U.S. premiere of Boyzie Cekwana and Panaibra Canda's The Inkomati (dis)cord September 25 and 26 at 7:30pm, followed by the NYC premiere of Bouchra Ouizguen's Ha! September 27 and 28 at 7:30pm. Co-presented with the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF)'s Crossing the Line 2013 festival, both productions feature new, diverse work from international artists that cultivates dialogue among the public and artists alike.

Announced at a press conference by members of The Bessies Selection Committee, the nominations (listed below) were made by an independent committee of 38 dance industry professionals. Produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, Bessie Award categories include Outstanding Production, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Visual Design, Outstanding Composition or Sound Design and Outstanding Revived Work.

The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, New York Live Arts' resident dance company, today announced the touring programs and productions for the 2013-2014 season, continuing the Company's 30th anniversary celebrations. The Company will perform in 13 cities in three countries over the next 10 months, making their debut at a number of venues across the U.S. and abroad. The tour kicks off with the Company's debut at the Festival de Marseille, in Marseille, France, on June 19 with a residency and performances of Play and Play: an Evening of Movement and Music. Other touring programs of the 2013-2014 season include A Rite, with Anne Bogart's SITI Company; Story/Time; Body Against Body; and /Time: Study I, a new site-specific work.

Rebecca Lazier's COMING TOGETHER/ATTICA Debuts at The Invisible Dog Tonight

Tonight, Thursday, June 13 (7 + 9 pm) at The Invisible Dog in Brooklyn, choreographer Rebecca Lazier and indie-classical ensemble Newspeak present the first US performances of Coming Together/Attica, a site-specific setting of Frederic Rzewski's iconic minimalist scores written following the 1971 prison riots in upstate New York. Lazier's dancers are Rashaun Mitchell and Silas Riener (formerly of Merce Cunningham Dance Company); Asli Bulbul, most recently from Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company; Jennifer Lafferty, who is featured in the work of Beth Gill and Yasuko Yokoshi; Pierre Guilbault; and Christopher Ralph.
