A group of over 50 other New York City artists-including Tony Award, Pulitzer Prize, MacArthur Fellowship and OBIE Award winners spanning numerous disciplines-have launched The Trickle Up, a subscription video service to help artists hurt from the COVID-19 shutdown.

Play On Shakespeare today announces an expansive list of compelling actors and dynamic directors confirmed to participate in the Play on! Festival, presented in association with Classic Stage Company (CSC) and Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF). Play on! features 39 readings of new, work-in-progress translations of Shakespeare's plays into contemporary modern English by some of today's most exciting playwrights-May 29-June 30 at the Lynn F. Angelson Theater at CSC (136 E. 13th Street). In 2015, Oregon Shakespeare Festival launched an ambitious 39-play, three-year commissioning project, Play on!, tasking 36 playwrights-more than half of whom were women and playwrights of color, each paired with a dramaturg-to translate Shakespeare's canon in celebration of the enduring impact of the Bard's work. Supported by a generous grant from the Hitz Foundation and inspired by long-time patron Dave Hitz's passion for Shakespeare, the project was and continues to be led by Lue Morgan Douthit. Manhattan Theatre Club's American premiere of The Nap, written by Olivier Award nominee Richard Bean (One Man, Two Guvnors) and directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan (Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes; Rabbit Hole; Proof) is playing its final two weeks of performances. The play must close on Sunday, November 11th at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street).

Manhattan Theatre Club will "Trans Visibility in the Theatre," a panel directly following the Sunday, November 4th matinee of The Nap. Come to an open discussion about increasing trans presence in the theatre, with panelists including Alexandra Billings (The Nap, "Transparent"), Kate Bornstein (Straight White Men, "I Am Cait"), Will Davis (India Pale Ale, Men On Boats), Alexa Fogel ("Pose" Casting Director), Bianca Leigh (The Nap, Transamerica), and Marquise Vilson (Charm). They will discuss how the arts industry can sustain and further the current push for greater trans presence and representation.

Manhattan Theatre Club's 2018-2019 season officially kicked off last night with the American premiere of The Nap, written by Olivier Award nominee Richard Bean and directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan. Marissa Wolf, Associate Artistic Director and Director of New Works at Kansas City Repertory Theatre (KCRep), today announced the full schedule for the organization's popular 2018/2019 Monday Night Playwright Series. The series features a line-up of new and returning playwrights including Christina Anderson, Bennett Fisher, Greta Oglesby, Andrew Rosendorf, Bianca Leigh and Mellon Foundation Playwright in Residence Nathan Louis Jackson, in addition to the Playwright Slam, hosted by Nathan Louis Jackson. These free public events take place on the UMKC campus at the Spencer Theatre Donor Lounge.

Directed by Gisela Cardenas, with musical direction by Robert Frost and choreography by Nicole Curcio, it will begin performances as part of this year New York Musical Festival (NYMF) beginning July 12 at Peter Jay Sharp Theatre at Playwrights Horizons (416 W 42nd St).

???????NINA MEHTA has joined the cast of the FUTURE IS FEMALE FESTIVAL, to be presented at Bernie Wohl Center, Wednesday, March 22, at 7pm. The popular actress has appeared in HBO's GIRLS, and Comedy Central's INSIDE AMY SCHUMER and is a permanent ensemble member of The Collective NY (JACKSON HEIGHTS 3AM).

On Wednesday, March 22, 7pm, the 29th Street Playwrights Collective and Goddard Riverside will join theaters, playwrights, directors and actors throughout the US and Canada who have united during Women's History Month to present THE FUTURE IS FEMALE FESTIVAL, a national series of staged readings and productions of 10-minute plays written by women of all backgrounds on the subject 'The Future is Female' and what that means to them.

As New York girds itself for a fight across party lines, Pangea is the place to party before the fight.  Some mean hombres like Jeremy Lawrence, Salty Brine and MargOH! Channing will show you what they're made of. Singer-seers like Gay Marshall and Carol Lipnik will blast through doors and glass ceilings, and cabaret confederates like Kevin Malony's rogues' gallery of talent in the "Happy Cry Pretty" series will break conventions with disarming ease. Top off the month with The Secret Variety Society on Friday March 31 and you've got a recipe for dealing with the disaster.

At Pangea we celebrate the edge, the cutting edge. And right on the cusp of February are the extraordinary Rachelle Garniez finishing up a run, and Kim David Smith launching another.  Add to that Jeremy Lawrence, Salty Brine, Carol Lipnik and another season of Kevin Malony's "Happy Cry Pretty," and it all starts to make sense: Downtown's supper-club Pangea, which Stephen Holden recently called "a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by," plays home to some of the best in alt cabaret.
