The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts launches the year-long international centennial celebration of Leonard Bernstein with the opening weekend of Leonard Bernstein at 100.

The American Theatre Wing has announced that Natalie Cortez, Gavin Creel, Santino Fontana, Heather Headley, Norm Lewis, Rebecca Luker, Beth Malone, Howard McGillin, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Laura Osnes, and Taylor Trensch will perform at its annual Gala on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Cipriani 42nd Street (110 East 42nd Street).

On Monday, September 11, Theater People podcast welcomes Broadway favorite Morgan James. For the episode, James shares her story of first moving to New York City to attend the Julliard School as a voice major. Attending Julliard had been a life-long dream and when she was wait listed, she had to get creative in order to make her admission a reality. After graduating and deciding to pursue a career in musical theater, James struggled to find work and had to figure out how she best fit into 'the business.'

A few years ago he started tinkering with this venerable classic, having workshops and readings before finally hitting the stage. Scanlan retains more than a half dozen of the original numbers, and adds some of Willson's trunk songs, as well as some songs written for the movie, to flesh out this tale, which truly highlights the life of Molly Brown in more accurately historical fashion. It's the current production playing at the MUNY, and it's a breath of fresh air, led by Beth Malone's scintillating performance, and staged with a scope that opens the show up like a piece of Colorado real estate. It's an invigorating must-see!
