About halfway through Jim Brochu's Saturday, June 29 performance at the Metropolitan Room of his new show Character Man, I realized I was witnessing what was probably the best cabaret show I'd seen this year, and perhaps was one of the best in my almost three years of reviewing cabaret. By the time the show ended, I had changed my mind. Not because the show fell apart in the second half, but because what Jim Brochu had created (and is opening tonight at the Broward Stage Door Theatre in Coral Springs, Florida, where it will be performed until August 11) was more than a cabaret show. Character Man is a delightful, extremely well-crafted Off-Broadway theater piece that is destined for a run that might rival his critically-acclaimed one-man Zero Mostel tribute show, Zero Hour, which played throughout the country between 2006-2012 and earned Brochu 2010 Drama Desk and Helen Hayes Awards.

Marking the 75th anniversary of THE WIZARD OF OZ, Warner Bros. has produced a 3D remastered version of the film. Kicking off the celebration, The Wizard of Oz 3D will be presented in the immersive Imax 3D format and return to the big screen for an exclusive one-week engagement in Imax theatres across North America beginning September 20, 2013. The musical revue features a star studded cast including Michelle Aravena, Janine DiVita, Tony Award nominee Tom Hewitt,David Josefsberg, and Tony Award nominee Emily Skinner with direction by Don Stephenson.

According to a recent interview with ABC Classic FM, stage and screen star Angela Lansbury will return to Broadway in Fall 2013 in a revival of THE CHALK GARDEN. An official announcement has not yet been made. Lansbury revealed on the podcast: 'A rather exciting event coming up in the fall is a new production of The Chalk Garden by Enid Bagnold. It's a lovely play. Wonderful role, Mrs. St. [Maugham]. We're going to do that on Broadway- so if you're in New York, I hope you'll come and see it.'

Berkeley Playhouse closes its fifth season with the Tony Award-winning musical THE WIZ. Kimberly Dooley(Lucky Duck, Seussical, The Musical, Once On This Island) directs and choreographs this soulful re-imagining of L. Marking the 75th anniversary of THE WIZARD OF OZ, Warner Bros. has produced a 3D remastered version of the film which will launch a comprehensive, cross-divisional campaign encompassing theatrical, home entertainment, consumer products and a number of promotional partnerships.

The remaster will reportedly be handled much in the same way as JURASSIC PARK in 3-D and TITANIC, and a DVD release is set to coincide with the film's 75th anniversary.
