Happy Birthday Angela Lansbury! Lansbury - who returned to Broadway in this year's revival of THE BEST MAN - has enjoyed an unprecedented career, first as a star of motion pictures, and then as an award-winning stage actor in New York and London. She appeared as Madame Armfeldt in the 2009 revival of A Little Night Music, and before that as Madame Arcati in the 2009 revival of Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit, for which she won her fifth Tony Award, as well as Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards. She performed in 2006 in Terrence McNally's Deuce, for which she was also nominated for a Tony Award. She made her Broadway debut in 1957 as Bert Lahr's wife in Hotel Paradiso. In 1960, she returned to Broadway as Joan Plowright's mother in the season's most acclaimed drama, A Taste of Honey, by Shelagh Delaney. A year later, she starred in her first musical, Anyone Can Whistle. Lansbury returned to Broadway in triumph in 1966 in Mame, for which she won her first Tony Award.
Steppenwolf Theatre Company Artistic Director Martha Lavey engages in conversation with John Lahr about his latest book, Tennessee Williams: Mad Pilgrimage of the Flesh in a special one-night-only event, Monday, October 13 at 7pm in the Downstairs Theatre. Lahr, who served as senior drama critic for The New Yorker for more than two decades, recently released his twentieth book, an authoritative, extraordinary biography on Tennessee Williams that invites intimate access into the mind of a playwright whose work reshaped the American theater. The Oscar Hammerstein Festival will culminate in a weekend with musical theatre experts, artists, and enthusiasts and various events open to the general public. The Festival will launch this weekend, September 26 - 28, 2014.
This November Islington's King's Head Theatre is to stage the world premiere of Norris Church Mailer's stage play Go See, a gripping exploration of personal, cultural and sexual identity in a big city. Directed by Sondra Lee and designed by Klara Zieglerova with lighting design by Mike Robertson, the show runs November 12 to 29, 2014. Press night is slated for November 14 at 7.15 p.m.

This April, teen performers came from throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey to participate in a rigorous audition for the much-anticipated Bucks County Playhouse Youth Company. For the first time, the Playhouse proudly offers a free, intensive, six-week musical theatre training program for young actors, culminating in two weeks of performances of Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr. on the legendary stage at Bucks County Playhouse July 28th through August 9th.
