Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuaron's 3D space epic GRAVITY, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, tethered $17 million on its opening Friday and is now floating toward $48-50 million for the weekend. The Warner Bros. movie is on track to become the biggest three-day opening ever for both Bullock and Clooney and one of October's highest grossing films.

At the end of the first act of The Book of Mormon, now playing Austin's Bass Concert Hall for a two week run, I thought to myself, 'This is the most distasteful, crude, offensive, and subversive musical I've ever seen, and I'm loving every minute of it.' According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has ordered a 'TRAFFIC-like' project from Adam Armus and Kay Foster, who currently serve as writers on Fox's THE FOLLOWING. Peter Horn will executive produce. Universal Television, Fabrik Entertainment and Red Arrow Entertainment Group pushed the project into development, with THE KILLING's Mikkel Bondesen Kristen Campo set to executive produce, as well.

At 10 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.8/3, 3.7 million viewers overall) locked up NBC's top total-viewer result in the time period, excluding sports, since December 29, 2012 ('SVU,' 4.0 million viewers).

FOX Broadcasting Company (FOX) has given a pilot production commitment to The Middle MAN, a new drama produced by FOX and Pearl Street Films, and executive-produced by Academy Award winner Ben Affleck ('Argo,' 'The Town') and Emmy Award nominee Glenn Gordon Caron ('Medium,' 'Moonlighting'), who wrote the pilot script. Affleck ('Argo,' 'The Town,' 'Gone Baby Gone') is attached to direct the pilot. Pearl Street Films' Chay Carter ('Argo,' 'The Town,' 'Gone Baby Gone') will also serve as an executive producer on the project. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2014.
