Under Artistic Director Tim Bonda??s leadership, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley has just launched an ambitious new online initiative entitled Voices of Democracy, with the intention of encouraging audiences to get out the vote and stand up for racial justice. Leading up to the 2020 election, Voices of Democracy offers digital theatrical experiences that celebrate diverse voices and build a bridge from empathy to action, including plays, poetry, and curated quotes that shine a light on pressing issues during this election year. It will also feature an interview with Tony Award winner & TheatreWorks alum James Monroe Iglehart (Broadwaya??s Aladdin and Hamilton). BroadwayWorld recently caught up with Tim Bond to learn more about Voices of Democracy and his own history before coming to TheatreWorks. Bond is a fascinating guy to talk to so our conversation took all kinds of interesting twists and turns. A true people person, he is especially committed to using theater to build community and effect change. In conversation, he often takes his time to respond to questions and is apt to speak in complex sentences that show a great deal of thought. He is not someone who needs to shout to make his voice heard and frequently leavens his responses with gentle laughter. At once brainy and comfortable expressing his emotions, Bond is clearly a person of heart and mind.

Next up for L.A. Theatre Works will be Qui Nguyen's VIETGONE, set to be recorded live at the James Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus for four performances beginning January 24, 2020. East West Players' Producing Artistic Director Emeritus Tim Dang will direct this semi-fictional tale of how Qui's parents met in an Arkansas relocation camp. The talented cast includes Will Dao, Desirée Mee Jung, Greg Watanabe, Paul Yen and Jeena Yi. As with past festivals, writers, presses, and literary journals from across the country will appear alongside acts such as Grizzly Bear, Divine Fits, Deerhoof, Tig Notaro, Killer Mike, Iris Dement, Janeane Garofalo, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, and many more. All literary events are free and open to the public.
The Mission Creek Festival has released the second announcement of artists performing at this year's festival. New acts scheduled to perform include supergroup Divine Fits, 30-piece punk marching band Mucca Pazza, rising metal group Pallbearer, and rock duo JEFF the Brotherhood. Other new additions are Mister Lies, Ital, Pete Swanson Future Rock, Pujol, Container, and Iowa-based artists Har-di-Har, Gloom Balloon, Mirror Coat, Ex-Action Model, No Coast, and Gem Jones.

The OBIE Award-winning Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company, will present the world premiere of "THE INEXPLICABLE REDEMPTION OF AGENT G," written by Qui Nguyen and directed by Robert Ross Parker (with fight direction by Nguyen), when it begins performances on March 24 at Incubator Arts Project (incubatorarts.org), St. Mark's Church-in-the-Bowery, 131 East 10th Street (at 2nd Avenue).
For the first time, the National Asian American Theater Conference and the National Asian American Theater Festival will be held jointly from June 16-25, 2011. The event will be presented in Los Angeles by the Consortium of Asian American Theaters and Artists (CAATA) and hosted by Asian American Theaters East West Players and Teada Productions, both residing in Los Angeles.
