To raise funds for its 'Save Our Theatre' appeal, North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) will present three special cabaret performances this week featuring the cast of Disney High School Musical 2, the NSMT Orchestra and NSMT Academy of Music Theatre students. The cabaret performances are open to theatergoers and the general public, and suggested donations of $20 will be accepted at the door. Last week, the theatre announced that it must raise $500,000 by end of January and another $4 million by April to proceed with producing its 2009 Season and theatre education programs. Fifty-seven staff members will be laid off on January 11th.
The not-for-profit North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT), faced with reality of the current economic crisis, announced today that without immediate philanthropic support it will close its doors after 55 years of providing performing arts and educational programming to millions. The Theatre's leadership is urging the public to show its support by purchasing tickets to the remaining 13 performances of Disney High School Musical 2, which runs through January 11th. Variety is reporting that the world premiere of High School Musical 2 will be directed by Jeff Calhoun at Theater of the Stars in Atlanta, Georgia. The show will run from November 7th- 16th 2008. Casting has not yet been announced.
