The glamour, spectacle and fashion of 1930s Broadway comes to North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) as a chorus girl from a small town aspires to find love and success on the Great White Way in the Tony® Award winning 42nd STREET, tapping across the NSMT main stage from October 28 to November 23, 2008.  Press night is scheduled for October 30th at 7:30 pm.  42nd STREET is sponsored by the Marriott Boston Peabody.

“42nd STREET is musical comedy at its finest – a star-is-born story, spectacular design, memorable musical numbers and outstanding tap dancing,” said Barry Ivan, NSMT’s Artistic Director and Executive Producer. “It captures the spirit of anyone who has ever pursued a dream while keeping audiences thoroughly entertained from the first note to the final tap.”

Based on the 1933 Busby Berkeley movie musical, 42nd STREET tells the story of a starry-eyed young actress named Peggy Sawyer who comes to audition for the new Julian Marsh-directed musical about to open on Broadway. While she can't seem to stay in the good graces of the show's aging leading lady Dorothy Brock, Peggy soon catches the eye of the famous director. On opening night, Ms. Brock breaks her ankle and panic spreads through the company as the show is doomed for closure–until it is suggested that Peggy take the role. In only 36 hours, Peggy becomes a star! With a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin, the memorable score includes We’re in the Money You’re Getting to be a Habit With Me, Lullaby of Broadway, and of course, 42nd Street.

42nd STREET stars Jessica Lee Goldyn, as Peggy Sawyer, who comes to NSMT directly from Broadway where she starred as Val in the Tony® Award winning revival of A Chorus Line.  It also stars Patrick Ryan Sullivan, as Julian Marsh, who played the same role in the show’s National Tour. Todd Lattimore, who appeared in the 2001 Tony® Award winning Broadway production of 42nd STREET, stars as Billy Lawlor, and Beth Glover stars as Dorothy Brock.

42nd STREET features Joel Blum (Andy Lee & Bert Barry), Susan Cella of Revere (Maggie Jones), Gary Lindermann (Pat Denning), Mara Newbery (Annie) and Hardy Rawls (Abner Dillon).  Ms. Cella appeared as Dorothy Brock in NSMT’s 1997 production of 42nd STREET. The Ensemble includes: Cassie Abate (Lorraine), Abby Church, Warren Curtis, Kelly Day, C.K. Edwards, Zak Edwards, Adrienne Fisher, Rob Flebbe of Beverly, Andrew Hodge, Matthew Warner Kiernan, Christopher Lengerich, Brittany Lewis, Courtney Romano, Hilary Rushford, Dana Winkle, Natalie Wisdom and Richard Riaz Yoder.  Local teenagers featured in the opening tap dance number include:  Eva Rae Costanza, Michaela Della Russo, Samantha Manson, Rebekah Nason and Nicole Soriano.

The creative team for 42nd STREET includes Charlie Repole (Director), Michael Lichtefeld (Choreographer), Craig Barna (Musical Director), Jeff Modereger (Scenic Designer),
Jack Mehler (Lighting Designer) and Gerard Kelley (Wig Designer).  An esteemed Broadway director, actor and educator, this is Mr. Repole’s fourth time directing at NSMT.  Mr. Lichtefeld returns to the theatre for the second time this season after directing and choreographing BYE BYE BIRDIE this summer.  It is Mr. Barna’s first time at NSMT.
