The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry at Storrs Center will present an exciting evening program of three family-friendly works for paper theater--also known as toy theater--on Thursday, September 3 at 7:30 p.m. This travelling paper theater mini-festival features puppeteers from Mexico City's Facto Teatro, Berlin-based graphic artist and puppeteer Barbara Steinetz, and John Bell and Trudi Cohen of New York City's Great Small Works company. Tickets for these family-friendly performances are $12.
Tuesday 8 September at 7pm, Pontine Theatre presents A TRAVELING TOY THEATRE FESTIVAL at it's West End Studio Theatre. Three countries meet on one small stage: Trudi Cohen and John Bell, members of the NYC-based collective Great Small Works, team up with Facto Teatro from Mexico City and Barbara Steinitz from Berlin to share a program of Toy Theater in venues across New England. Tickets are $18 and may be purchased in advance online at www.pontine.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door a half-hour prior to the performance, based on availability. Pontine's West End Studio Theatre (WEST) is located at 959 Islington Street in Portsmouth NH. Laughter was certainly in the air on Friday night, as was generosity at the opening of the new summer musical comedy, Married ALIVE! at Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in downtown Coral Gables. Audiences were treated to a riotous musical about the mayhems of matrimony in the upstairs balcony theatre while Actors' Playhouse received a special gift from long-time sponsor American Express, a $20,000 check in support of the Theatre.
