When Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly's musical MATILDA, based on Roald Dahl's novel by the same name, first leapt across the pond most assumed that the Broadway cast would not get a cast recording. However, this production has been full of surprise announcements like Bertie Carvel reprising his role as Miss Trunchbull and the addition of an overture and pre-show curtain. The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) has announced final casting for the 25th Annual Festival of New Musicals on Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street).

The producers of the Tony Award-winning Matilda The Musical announced last week that the original Broadway cast recording will be produced by Michael Croiter and Christopher Nightingale for Broadway Records/Yellow Sound Label and will be released digitally and be available at the Shubert Theatre beginning Friday, September 27, 2013. Produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, sponsored by the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and additional sponsorship by the New York Times, BARKS will take place on Saturday, July 13 in Shubert Alley, the heart of the Broadway Theater District (located between 44th and 45thStreets, between Broadway and Eighth Avenues). The festivities begin at 3:30 p.m.; celebrity presentations of pets from animal shelters citywide will take place between 5-6:30 p.m. This year, BARKS will open the show with a performance from the Jersey Boysfollowed by the Broadway debut of many adoptable animals presented by many stars from this season's 'hottest' shows. The National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA) selected 62 finalists from tens of thousands of students to compete for the coveted Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress, last night at the Minskoff Theatre. Hosted by the Tony Award-nominated stars of Rodgers + Hammerstein's CINDERELLA, Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana, the fifth annual performance showcase featured dynamic ensemble and solo performances exclusively from the musical theater cannon.
