BOSCH Star Directs At Skypilot Theatre

Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, a member of the cast of the Amazon hit show BOSCH, is helping out SkyPilot Theatre by directing her good friend, Inda Craig-Galvan's play, Tinder…Sucka, as part of the SkyPilot's fundraiser, Return of the Living Fundraiser evening on Friday, Feb 23rd at Theatre Of Arts at 1625 N. Las Palmas in Hollywood. The reception starts at 7PM and the show of 5 ten-minute comedy one acts starts at 8 PM. The evening features silent auctions, drawings and door prizes plus food and drinks. Admission is 15 dollars at the door.  

BRIC Announces Common Will Open 40th BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival

BRIC is pleased to announce that Academy and Grammy Award-winning actor and musician Common will open the 40th annual BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival with a free concert on June 5 at the Prospect Park Bandshell, marking the first event in a yearlong celebration to cap off four decades for the pioneering NYC arts-and-media organization and leading presenter of free cultural programming in Brooklyn. Preceding the concert will be a gala honoring outgoing BRIC President Leslie Griesbach Schultz for her 13 years of transformational leadership.

Black Stars and Filmmakers Celebrate 10 Years of AFROPOP: THE ULTIMATE CULTURAL EXCHANGE

Black stars and filmmakers converged on the Harlem Stage Gatehouse on Friday to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the acclaimed series AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange. The event featured a screening of the documentary program's season finale , Fatal Assistance, award-winning director Raoul Peck's sobering indictment of the global aid policies that failed Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating 2010 earthquake. The evening was hosted by actor Nicholas L. Ashe, star of the hit OWN Network series Queen Sugar and host of this season of AfroPoP, and featured a post-screening discussion led by award-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa with Hébert Peck, producer of Fatal Assistance.

Mistaken multiple times for TAO by passersby due to the overwhelming crowd waiting to get in, Midnight MACRO hosted by Charles and Stacey King, at the MACRO Lodge on Main St was Saturday night's best party. The overcapacity event brought in not only the cast of MACRO's Sorry to Bother You (Tessa Thompson, Lakeith Stanfield, Steven Yeun, Director Boots Riley) which had its Sundance premiere earlier in the evening, but also saw a number of the festival's other attendees including Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, Omari Hardwick, Anthony Ramos (She's Gotta Have It), Coleman Domingo, Lena Waithe, Danai Gurira, John Legend, Issa Rae and Insecure co-star Jay Ellis, Gabby Sidobe, and Chris Hardwick.
