Elton John AIDS Foundation Fall Gala to Honor Patricia Hearst, Gayle King will Host and Sheryl Crow will Perform

On Monday, November 5, 2018, the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) will host its annual New York Fall Gala at Cipriani 42ndStreet in New York City.  At this year's gala, EJAF Founder Sir Elton John and Chairman David Furnish will honor Ford Foundation President Darren Walker, philanthropist Patricia Hearst, and long-time advocate Joe McMillan, CEO and Chairman of DDG, with EJAF's Enduring Vision Award.  Nine-time Grammy Award Winning Singer, Songwriter Sheryl Crow will be the special musical guest, and Bryan Stevenson, Founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) and the new National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama, will be the featured speaker. CBS This Morning co-anchor and journalist Gayle King will host the event.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) is pleased to announce that actress and producer Cate Blanchett will receive the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film at the 2018 British Academy Britannia Awards. She joins previously announced honoree Steve McQueen, who will receive the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing.

ArtsEmerson, Boston's leading presenter of contemporary world theatre, is thrilled to welcome the first U.S. tour of National Black Theatre and Hi-ARTS's timely and urgent production, The Peculiar Patriot. Inspired by her decades-long work with prison populations, including on the notorious Riker's Island, Liza Jessie Peterson's one-woman show unpacks the human impact of mass incarceration in America. Ava DuVernay's AUGUST 28 to Make Television Debut on OWN

Acclaimed director Ava DuVernay's short-form film entitled “August 28: A Day in the Life of a People” will make its national television debut on Tuesday, August 28 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on OWN. Starring Lupita Nyong'o, Angela Bassett, Don Cheadle, Regina King, David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, André Holland, Michael Ealy and Glynn Turman, DuVernay's 22-minute scripted film uses a robust combination of both documentary and narrative techniques to transport viewers through six stunning historical moments that all actually occurred on the same day in various years.

Viola Davis to Present Steve McQueen with the John Schlesinger Britannia Award
