Within our theatre department at Ithaca College, we have five majors: BFA Musical Theatre, BFA Acting, BFA Theatre Production & Design, BS Theatre Arts Management, and BA Theatre Studies, or the 'BATS.' To some people, Theatre Studies is the catch-all major, where those who do 'everything else' go. While it's not entirely untrue that playwrights, stage managers, directors, and dramaturgs end up as BATS, I like to think of it as the major for multi-hyphenates.

It's just now what we might call mid-September, and I already feel as though I've been back at school for three months instead of three weeks. My bedroom isn't even completely unpacked yet. And as my Theories of Performance professor pointed out, we just had our first full five-day week of classes. But somehow, despite all of this, the first show of our department's season goes into tech this week and opens on Saturday night.

The 2ND ANNUAL ITHACA ONE-MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL (#1MPF) returns to Ithaca for its second year, in partnership with the Kitchen Theatre Company. The 2nd Annual Ithaca One-Minute Play Festival runs for three performances only; July 13th at 8pm, and July 14th at 3pm & 7pm. All performances are at the Kitchen Theatre (417 W StateMLK, Jr. St). Tickets, priced at $20, are available at kitchentheatre.org.

Amas Musical Theatre's Donna Trinkoff (Artistic Producer) Rosetta LeNoire Musical Theatre Academy will present FAME: The Musical, based on the 1980 musical film conceived and developed by David De Silva, with a book by Jose Fernandez, lyrics by Jacques Levy, and music by Steve Margoshes (Title song 'Fame' by Dean Pitchford & Michael Gore). Directed by Christopher Scott and David Drake (Associate Director), choreography by Monica Johnson and musical direction by Trevor Bachman, the production will feature 29 members of 'The Teen Academy.' Performances will begin on Friday, May 1, 2015 (and continue through May 10) at The Theatre at the 14th Street Y (344 East 14th Street - between 1st & 2nd Aves).
