Fresh from his Best Supporting Actor win at the 57th FLEUR DU CAP THEATRE AWARDS on Sunday 27 March, Siya Mayola sat down to chat to us about winning, life through the pandemic and his future.

Milwaukee Chamber Theatre has announced full casting and production details for THE ISLAND by Athol Fugard, John Kani, and Winston Ntshona, directed by Mikael Burke. THE ISLAND opens Saturday, April 9th at 8pm.

For the 68th season, Court Theatre will share a beloved, sharp-witted classic comedy; a drama set in Apartheid-era South Africa that speaks directly to our moment; an award-winning Caryl Churchill play about the lives of women farm laborers in 1970s England; and a celebratory, exuberant musical that re-imagines the story of Oedipus.

Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival announces veteran stage, film, and television actor Tony Todd will return to play the role of Troy Maxson in August Wilson’s Fences. The Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play will open this summer at the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts at DeSales University in Center Valley, PA.

Burning Coal Theatre Company has announced its production of Athol Fugard's The Road to Mecca, directed by Jerome Davis.  Based on the life of sculpture Helen Martins, The Road to Mecca will run December 2 – 19, 2021 at the Murphey School, located at 224 Polk Street, Raleigh, NC 27604.  

The Lantern’s first collaboration with nationally prominent director and playwright Steve H. Broadnax III, this world premiere play with music shows the dramatic confrontation between the great American blues musician Robert Johnson and the Devil from whom, legend has it, Johnson received his extraordinary talent.

It is, of course, mere coincidence that former South African State President F.W. de Clerk died only three days before Athol Fugard’s My Children! My Africa! opened at Washington Stage Guild, but it sets a mood. de Clerk was the last President of apartheid-afflicted South Africa; he led the government’s sometimes acrimonious negotiations with Nelson Mandela to bring democracy to that benighted country, for which they shared a Nobel Prize.
