Sixty years ago this month, West Side Story opened on Broadway to become one of the best-loved musicals of all time. To celebrate this historic event, Dancers Over 40 will assemble a spectacular once-in-a-lifetime panel of original cast members nearly to the day of their 1957 debut.

Sixty years ago today, on September 26th, 1957, WEST SIDE STORY opened on Broadway and went on to become one of the best-loved musicals of all time. In honor of its 60th anniversary, watch a selection of scenes from the show below!

It all began tonight! On this day in 1957, West Side Story celebrates its opening night at the Winter Garden Theater!

In partnership with Carnegie Hall, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, the Museum of the City of New York, and the National Museum of American Jewish History, Google Arts and Culture has brought together an impressive digital collection dedicated to the history and legacy of the iconic musical, West Side Story.

GYPSY will play at the John W. Engeman Theatre on Long Island through October 29. A musical theatre classic, GYPSY follows the story of Louise, who went from an awkward young girl to famous burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee. See the life of sisters June and Louis and their overbearing stage mother Rose. The show features classic songs such as 'Let Me Entertain You,' 'Everything's Coming Up Roses,' and 'If Mama Was Married.' GYPSY has a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

On the day applications are due at Edgely Prep, an elite Manhattan private school, the head of admissions is ousted in a scandal. Christine Evans, a Kindergarten assistant, is unexpectedly thrust into the job.

American Lyric Theater presents The New Crew, a salon including performances by and discussions with American Lyric Theater's newest Resident Artists in the Composer Librettist Development Program: composers Shuying Li, Andy Teirstein, and Liliya Ugay; librettists Lorene Cary, Julian Crouch, and Lila Palmer; and dramaturg Antigoni Gaitana.

Northport's exquisite John W. Engeman Theatre does it again with a stellar version of the iconic Laurents/Styne/Sondheim musical Gypsy. The Tony winner runs at the Long Island venue through October 29th excellently directed by Engeman vet Igor Goldin boasting an outstanding cast. And I know you are probably saying that there are showings of this everywhere you look. However, when you have a production like this, it definitely warrants another visit.
