NAMT Announces Selections for 23rd Annual FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announced today the eight musicals selected to be part of the 23rd Annual Festival of New Musicals on Thursday, October 27 and Friday, October 28 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street).

As BroadwayWorld has previously reported, producers Jeffrey Seller and Kevin McCollum, resurrected the infamous flop musical CARRIE for an Equity reading that had a notoriously short 3 night, 5 performance run on Broadway in 1988. The reading took place on November 20, 2009. The hope is to bring 'Carrie' and her supernatural powers back to the Broadway stage.

Last night, Monday June 21, the Kleban Foundation hosted a cocktail reception honoring the winners of the 20th Annual Kleban Awards for the most promising musical theater lyricist and librettist. 2010 Kleban Award winners are Peter Mills (the most promising musical theater lyricist) and Barry Wyner (the most promising musical theater librettist). The Leading Men III concert was performed on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 7:00pm, as part of the long-running concert series Broadway at Birdland.The concert was a benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. John Tartaglia, the Tony-nominated star of Avenue Q, again hosted this annual celebration of stellar male singers and actors from Broadway and cabaret. Seth Rudetsky, the Emmy-nominated writer, host and comic, also returned as its musical director as did director Alan Muraoka (NAATCO's Falsettoland).
