Valery Gergiev And The Mariinsky Orchestra Return To Carnegie Hall With Two Performances This Fall

This fall, Music Director and Conductor Valery Gergiev and St. Petersburg's legendary Mariinsky Orchestra return to Carnegie Hall with two performances in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. On Wednesday, October 31 at 8:00 p.m., the program features Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker (complete concert version). The following evening, Thursday, November 1 at 8:00 p.m., Mr. Gergiev conducts the Mariinsky in Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major, Op. 83, featuring pianist Nelson Freire, as well as Strauss's epic tone poem Ein Heldenleben, Op. 40.

Valery Gergiev and the Illustrious Mariinsky Orchestra Return to The Soraya for a Rare All-Stravinsky Program

Continuing its mission to bring the best of the world's symphonic orchestras to Los Angeles, the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts will present the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Grammy Award-winning Music Director Valery Gergiev on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 8pm. Hailed as "Russia's musical crown Jewel" by The New York Times, the Orchestra will perform a complete Stravinsky program that includes the composer's most iconic works, including his scintillating prodigy piece, Fireworks, his strikingly original Symphony in C, and the rapturous ballet score that launched the young composer to international fame, The Firebird Suite. Young violinist Kristof Barati will join the orchestra for Violin Concerto in D Major.

Park Avenue Armory Stages North American Premiere of New Work by William Kentridge

Combining the political with the poetic, William Kentridge will animate Park Avenue Armory's Wade Thompson Drill Hall with a grand, multidisciplinary work commemorating the millions of Africans who served in World War I. Co-commissioned by Park Avenue Armory, 14-18 NOW Centenary Commissions, MASS MoCA, and the Ruhrtriennale, with additional support from the Holland Festival, The Head & The Load combines music and movement, sculpture and shadow play to critically examine colonialism and how somber remnants of history continue to color our experiences today.

Valley Of The Moon Music Festival Announces Summer Program

This summer the Valley of the Moon Music Festival returns to the Hanna Center in Sonoma for a musical journey to Vienna, July 15 - 29. The Festival will explore some of the most influential music composed in this central European capital: from a lesser-known Oboe Quartet by Vanhal (1771), through the chamber music of Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert, to Schoenberg's Second String Quartet (1908).

Da Camera Announces its 2018-19 Season

Da Camera of Houston celebrates 31 years of presenting chamber music and jazz concerts with the announcement of its 2018/2019 season, themed "Time Future Time Past." The title is taken from Four Quartets, a poem by T.S. Eliot: "Time present and time past / Are both perhaps present in time future / And time future contained in time past…" With a lineup spanning styles and genres, Da Camera's 2018/2019 season explores the progression of time.
