The Global Theater Initiative (GTI), a partnership between Theatre Communications Group (TCG) and The Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics (The Lab) at Georgetown University, invites all theatres, individual artists, institutions, and audiences to celebrate the 61st annual World Theatre Day on March 27, 2022.

After two years of most people living in at least semi-isolation, with many unemployed through no fault of their own, the Actors' Gang is returning to the stage with a re-mounting of Can't Pay? Don't Pay! written by Nobel Laureate Dario Fo and Franca Rame on March 19, 2022, with previews beginning March 12, exactly two years from the day the theater was shuttered and had to suspend this hilarious production. Fo's high-energy, satirical farce is again directed by Bob Turton, and I decided to speak with him about the journey he has taken with the production, especially what it's been like waiting for two years to bring the play back to its original location.

Flaunting their triple-theatre students’ acting talents in satirical, 20th century MEPHISTO, the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA) presented their 2021 acting production at Theatre on the Bay this past month.

The Actors' Gang Theater announces a new Axis Mundi evening as part of its digital season: Axis Mundi – In Conversation with Tim Robbins and theatrical legend and visionary director, Peter Brook. The free event, produced in partnership with Fundación Teatro a Mill, will be translated into French and Spanish and will be streamed Thursday, March 25th at 7 pm PST through Zoom and Facebook Live. The live translation is only available through Zoom.

University of California San Diego will virtually host world-renowned stage director Ariane Mnouchkine on March 24, 3:30-5 p.m.-PDT, during the annual Kyoto Prize Symposium, which is free and open to the public via livestreaming.

Four years ago today, just before an election expected to install the first female U.S. President, Taylor Mac premiered the entirety of A 24-Decade History of Popular Music, comprising 246 songs that were popular in this country from 1776 to 2016, in a 24-hour marathon performance.

Join The Conspirators for the return of The Jesus Christ Superstar Do-It-Yourself Messiah Complex, everybody's favorite tribute to the album version of Jesus Christ Superstar. Curated by Conspirators Artistic Director (and JCS aficionado) Wm. Each year, a renowned theatre artist of world stature is invited by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) Worldwide in Shanghai to craft an international message to mark the global occasion. Multi-Award winning Brian Cox directs the UK première of Sinners a?" The English Professor by Joshua Sobol, starring Nicole Ansari (Layla) and Adam Sina (Nur). The production opens at The Playground Theatre on 26 February, with previews from 25 February and runs until 14 March.

This December, Park Avenue Armory will round out its 2019 season with the world premiere of a new adaptation of ?-dön von Horváth's 1937 play Judgment Day, an ambitious work that explores morality, responsibility, and the guilt of a small-town's train stationmaster and his community. The adaptation, commissioned by the Armory and penned by Obie Award-winning and Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Christopher Shinn, is staged by famed British theater director Richard Jones, who returns to the Armory to helm this gripping moral parable following his critically acclaimed, eight-time Drama Deska?"nominated production of The Hairy Ape  at the Armory in 2017. With much of the narrative centered around an ill-fated train depot, Judgment Day and its vast set will take on special resonance in the 55,000-square-foot Wade Thompson Drill Halla?"reminiscent of the great nineteenth century train sheds of Europe, with its vaulted ceiling and raw industrial design. The production runs December 5, 2019 through January 11, 2020. Casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Conspirators will present their World Premiere adaptation, Accidental Death of a Black Motorist, adapted from Dario Fo by Sid Feldman and directed by Wm. Bullion, to be performed at the Athenaeum Theatre, Studio 1, 2936 N. Southport Ave. in Chicago. There will be a preview on Thursday, October 24th, and the opening is Friday October 25th. The show will run Thursdays-Saturdays at 8PM through November 23rd. 

The musical brings the first direction by Ariane Mnouchkine outside the Theatre du Soleil and it reunites a list of twenty Brazilian actresses that take turns in diverse roles. The short season runs from July 5 to 28 at Teatro Anchieta (Sesc Consolacao).

This September, renowned Japanese theater director Satoshi Miyagi brings his intercultural adaptation of Antigone to Park Avenue Armory for its North American premiere in the Wade Thompson Drill Hall.

Transforming Park Avenue Armory's Wade Thompson Drill Hall into an apocalyptic wasteland, visionary director and composer Heiner Goebbels returns to Park Avenue Armory with the North American premiere of Everything That Happened and Would Happen, marking Goebbels' third collaboration with the institution over the last 10 years.
