Theatre Y to Stage Shakespeare's MACBETH This Fall

Following a yearlong artistic collaboration with French theatre luminary Georges Bigot, renowned theatre company, Theatre Y, presents the inaugural production of the newly formed Theatre Y Ensemble with William Shakespeare's MACBETH, opening October 19 and running through December 4, at the historic Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division St.

Forced Entertainment Receives The International Ibsen Award

Sheffield based theatre company Forced Entertainment are to become the first ever UK based recipients of one of theatre's most prestigious awards it was today announced. The International Ibsen Award, honouring extraordinary contribution to art and culture, is only given every two years by the Norwegian government on Henrik Ibsen's birthday. The prize is 2.5 million Norwegian Kroner, equivalent to around £200,000. The first ever group to win the prize, Forced Entertainment join a distinguished list of previous winners including Peter Handke, Heiner Goebbels, Jon Fosse, Ariane Mnouchkine and Peter Brook. The award ceremony will take place during the International Ibsen Festival at the National Theatre in Oslo in September where Forced Entertainment will showcase a selection of their groundbreaking work.

Theatre Y to Welcome Georges Bigot for Shakespeare Workshop

Georges Bigot, an iconic figure with Ariane Mnouchkine's Theatre du Soleil 25 years ago and one of the most lauded stage actors of his time, is in Chicago to conduct a three-week workshop with American actors and dramaturgs. The workshop is working towards a production next year to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death - although Bigot prefers to think of 2016 as the 456th anniversary of the poet's birth. Details of the "what" and "where" of the production has yet to be settled, but it's safe to say that when the production happens, it won't be Shakespeare as usual.

UCT Drama to Present Mnouchkine's MEPHISTO Next Month

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre and home of the U.S. Center of the International Theatre Institute (ITI-US), invites all theatres, individual artists, institutions and audiences to celebrate the 51st annual World Theatre Day today, March 27, 2013. Each year, a renowned theatre artist of world stature is invited by ITI Worldwide in Paris to craft an international message to mark the global occasion. This year the message was written by Italian Nobel Prize-winning playwright, director and actor Dario Fo, and has been translated into more than 20 languages to reach tens of thousands in the international theatre community.

Eliot (The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock), Samuel Beckett (Worstward Ho), Maurice Blanchot (The Madness of the Day), and Franz Kafka ("Excursion into the Mountains"), that unfold as meditations on aging, mortality and the vicissitudes of modern life.

Edinburgh International Festival 2012 Kicks Off Today, Aug 9

Almost 3,000 artists from 47 nations gather to share the live experience of theatre, dance, opera and music with audiences from approximately a third of the world's nations at Edinburgh International Festival 2012. This year the festival takes place today, August 9 to September 2.
