NewArts, a not-for-profit theatrical production organization based in Newtown, CT that was recently featured in the award-winning documentary film, Midsummer in Newtown, continues its mission of fostering healing and strength through the performing arts and character development as it produces Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for its Summer 2017 season. The busy summer season continues on Columbia stages!

It's a busy weekend full of family fun on Soda City stages!

It is great to see an artist of Kay Cole's caliber perform her very first solo cabaret at a later stage of life. This woman has done TV, film, Broadway, national tours; she has directed both musicals and plays, choreographed...and now has released Souvenir, her very first solo CD and achieved a glorious cabaret debut at Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal on Sunday July 16. The show also called Souvenir, which ran under an hour, was directed by Cole's long-time friend the wonderful Bruce Kimmel and musically directed by the fabulous John Boswell, who accompanied her on the piano throughout. Jack Abrams, creator of Broadway Bricks, custom made Legos that resemble Broadway roles, is at it again! The teen recently made specialty Charlie Bucket Legos for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's child stars Jake Ryan Flynn, Ryan Foust and Ryan Sell, and surprised the guys with their very own Legos to add to their growing collection backstage at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

Talented musicians sizzle on the performance stage at Dino's Backstage and the Celebrity Room in July. July's entertainment lineup begins with two performances by Michelle Lordi on July 7 and 8, followed by the talented cabaret singer and jazz vocalist Paula Johns on July 14. Then, on July 15, pianist/singer Jared Feinman will perform showing off his strong baritone voice.

The audience loved it.

 Pride Films and Plays will again host its annual Nominee Night cabaret showcasing many of the musical theater performers nominated in the Non-Equity Jeff Awards. The nominees were announced on April 24 and the awards will be presented June 5, 2017 at the Atheneaum Theatre. This year's cabaret will for the first time be performed in the Broadway, Pride Arts Center - the new home the company acquired in summer 2016. The theater is located at 4139 N. Broadway, Chicago. Audience members will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a door prize drawing for $400.00 in airfare from Southwest Airlines.

Producers Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Langley Park Productions and Neal Street Productions announced today that the new Broadway musical Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will launch a National Tour in September 2018 and is currently holding dates into the summer of 2020.

Turning children's books into Broadway musicals has become very popular over the last few years. There is just something about seeing your favorite book from childhood coming to life on stage that just brings a little bit of magic back into the lives of audiences.

The Jeff Awards announced, via a special video presentation, a total of 127 nominations in 26 categories for the 44th Annual Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2016, and March 31, 2017.  Hosting the video presentation were Alexis Roston and Lillian Castillo, who will be this year's Mistresses of Ceremonies at the Awards event on June 5 at The Athenaeum.

With two supporting actor Tony Awards under his belt, the versatile and immensely talented Christian Borle finally spent an opening night as a Broadway leading man earlier this season, playing neurotic New Yorker Marvin in a limited run revival of William Finn's FALSETTOES. Now, with the New York premiere of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY underway, Borle is placed into a position many stars have had to deal with at one time or another; carrying a sagging show upon his shoulders to create the illusion that everything is just swell.

The factory is open! CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY officially takes on Broadway tonight.
