Theater for the New City's Dream Up Festival presents 'The Chaplin Plays: A Double Feature'.

On Monday, August 8, 2016, The New York Innovative Theatre Foundation, the organization who for the past 12 years has been dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway, announced the 2016 nominees at its annual event, The IT Party, celebrating 12 years and thousands of nominees at 42West. Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, New York's premiere socially conscious-eco-friendly theatre festival, caps off its latest season with its annual awards ceremony on Sunday, August 14, at 7pm, at the Cherry Lane Theatre, located at 38 Commerce Street.

New Light Theater Project and Access Theater present STRANGE COUNTRY by award-winning playwright Anne Adams. Winner of the New Light New Voices award, it is directed by Jay Stull (Utility, Rantoul and Die). Performances run through August 13 at Access Theater.

August Strindberg Repertory Theatre will emphasize the comedy in a remaking of August Strindberg's 'Crimes and Crimes,' to be presented August 6 to 20 at Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond Street.  The company's Associate Artistic Director, Whitney Aronson, is preparing a radical refashioning of the script to bring out the humor that underlies a play that is mostly known as an impressionistic study of thought.

New Light Theater Project and Access Theater will present STRANGE COUNTRY by award-winning playwright Anne Adams. Winner of the New Light New Voices award, it will be directed by Jay Stull (Utility, Rantoul and Die). Previews begin July 21st at Access Theater with opening slated for July 24.

Theatre 4the People (NYIT Award for Outstanding Production of a New Play for In Vestments) will present Erika Phoebus' KISS IT, MAKE IT BETTER, directed by Isaac Byrne (The Other Mozart) at The New Ohio (154 Christopher Street, between Greenwich and Washington, 10014), May 28-June 18 with performances Thursday through Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 5pm with additional performances on Saturday, June 11 & 18 at 3pm and Monday, May 30 and Wednesday, June 1 at 7:30pm. Before entering the theatre, we were asked to look at a map on the wall and mark a spot of our personal origin. I admit that I had to think a moment as to exactly how many dots to mark. So many of us come from different areas of the world and this process was fascinating to start with and put me immediately in touch with visions of my relatives past and present in my mind.

 From March 12 to April 2, August Strindberg Repertory will present Strindberg's 'Damascus II,' adapted by Edgar Chisholm, directed by Robert Greer. This is the second installment of the three-part work in which Strindberg first introduced true surrealism to the stage in the theatrical representation of the dream. Strindberg's tale of life in decadent artists' circles of 1890s Sweden will be brought to life in 1960s California and its leading character, an alienated writer, has been re-envisioned as an author modeled on Amiri Baraka.

The White Horse Theater Company is currently presenting the world premiere of YOU ARE PERFECT, a new play about the life of 'Manson Family Member' Susan Atkins, set in Atkins' prison cell on the eve before a key moment in the Manson murder trial. Marion, the production will run in NYC from February 5-20 at The WorkShop Theater Company-Main Stage (312 West 36th St.).

Stable Cable Lab Co. will present Max Baker's un-romantic comedy, Because Me. The production will play a limited engagement at the Wild Project (195 East 3rd Street between Avenues A and B) now through November 7.
