Sundance Institute, a nonprofit organization that provides and preserves the space for independent artists in film, theatre, and media to create and thrive, and Ucross, a prestigious artist residency program and creative laboratory for the arts, and have announced seven fellows participating in the 21st annual Sundance Institute Artist Residency at Ucross in Wyoming, currently taking place February 3-21, 2020. This year, the retreat was renamed (formerly the Sundance Institute Playwrights & Composers Retreat) to reflect its cross-disciplinary structure.
Submersive Productions will premiere See Also, a site-specific, immersive theater experience exploring Johns Hopkins University's George Peabody Library and other Hopkins library and museum collections. The production is inspired by a?oesee alsoa?? references, a traditional library cataloging practice that links different terms on catalog cards. The simple phrase a?oesee alsoa?? suggests many ideas: from a need to classify the world around us and an inclination to abandon one topic of research for another, to an evolving, feminist understanding of truth that makes space for many voices simultaneously. Like a card catalog, See Also will prompt a variety of complex and thought-provoking journeys.

Dance Theatre of Harlem announced today a $4 million gift from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support the organization's capacity building efforts, including improvements to salaries for artists and staff, investments in fundraising infrastructure and leadership, and innovative artistic and community-building initiatives. The grant includes a $1 million matching gift to be raised by the Dance Theatre of Harlem Board of Directors, led by Board Chairman Ackneil Muldrow, III, bringing the total support to $5 million.
