UCLA's Center of the Art of Performance's Artist Residency Program provides local and national artists creative time and necessary space for the development of new work. Each year CAP UCLA welcomes a new cohort and offers resources, time, connections and more to their process of bringing an idea to the stage.   Suzanne Bocanegra, one of this season's Artists In Residence, will workshop and develop her piece, Honor: An Artist Lecture the week of November 18. The week will conclude with an invited work-in-progress showing on Friday, November 22. The completed work will appear in an upcoming CAP UCLA season.

The Drama League announced today the 2020 line-up of DirectorFest: The 36th Annual Directors Festival, the only festival in the United States dedicated to the art of contemporary stage directing. For its 36th year, the festival will include six fully-staged productions, a showcase concert of a new musical, a town hall, and conversations with directors including 2017 Tony Award Winner Rebecca Taichman (Indecent), 2014 Tony Award Winner and 2010 Drama League Founders Award for Excellence in Directing Kenny Leon (A Soldier's Play), and Intimacy Director Claire Warden (HBO's Mrs. Fletcher).

Sundance Institute's Theatre Program will support three ambitious new works for the stage, and their four women creators, at this year's two-week Theatre Lab at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA). The Lab, which runs from November 10 to November 24th, will feature the concentrated and abundant time and resources, including individual casting from a dedicated acting company and daily rehearsals, that has long been a signature of Sundance's Labs.

Leon Fleisher alongside the Maryland Lyric Opera (MDLO) Orchestra in its debut symphonic performance on Nov. 12, 2019, 7:30 pm at The Music Center at Strathmore. Conducted by MDLO Music Director Louis Salemno, the Kennedy Center Honoree and Oscar-nominated Fleisher will join the MDLO in a performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No 12. Salemno will also lead the MDLO in performances of Mozart's iconic Overture from Le Nozze de Figaro; Debussy's Preludes a l'apres-midi d'un faune; and Sibelius' Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 43. Fleisher made his public debut with the New York Philharmonic at just 16 years old. By age 36, Fleisher's right hand was barely mobile, and he was diagnosed with focal dystonia, a devastating neurological condition that caused involuntary muscular contractions. The diagnosis left Fleisher in despair only temporarily; after a few years, he turned to teaching, conducting, and left-handed piano performances. After nearly four decades, aided by Botox injections in his right hand, Fleisher returned to the stage as a two-handed piano soloist officially in 2005, performing 40 concerts in 31 cities. Acclaimed opera star Amine Hachem returns in Around the World at Feinstein's/54 Below this December 4, 2019 at 9:30pm. Hailed as a?oeone of the best holiday concerts in NYCa?? (Metro New York), audience members hop on a time machine and travel from one country to another. From the Americas starting from Brazil and Argentina, climbing up to Mexico and the United States. The journey continues on and takes us to Europe, beginning with the streets of Paris and the magic of Rome and Napoli. Germany and Russia will also be highlighted, continuing on to Spain and the natural progression in music from Andalusian to Baladi and Ajami, transporting us to the Middle East and North Africa. And of course, a few Christmas hits to kick off the season!

Heidi Duckler Dance (HDD) will be touring in Chile in November 2019. The company will be performing as part of the international programming at the Centro de Experimentación Escénica in Valdivia on November 9th and at the LOFT International Dance Festival in Concepción on November 15. 

CPR - Center for Performance Research, which has supported more than 1700 artists in the development of dance and performance projects, is thrilled to announce its 2020 Artist-in-Residence: J. Bouey, mayfield brooks, cruz control collective, Parijat Desai, Stuart B. Meyers, Christopher Núñez, Londs Reuter, Cyrah Ward, Nami Yamamoto, and Lu Yim. These ten dance artists will receive 150 hours - an increase of 50 hours from previous years - of deeply subsidized rehearsal space, advance booking privileges, various performance and community engagement opportunities, and for the first time, artists will receive a $1000 stipend. CPR will welcome the 2020 AiRs in January, as CPR's 2019 AiRs culminate their residencies at Sunday Salon on January 12, 2020.

Cincinnati Opera announces the casting of principal roles for composer Gregory Spears and librettist Tracy K. Smith's new opera Castor and Patience, which will have its world premiere in Cincinnati, July 16 - 26, 2020, highlighting the company's 100th anniversary season.

Baltimore Center Stage has announced that its new civic dialogue series, The Baltimore Butterfly Sessions, will begin this month. Featuring music, poetry, storytelling, literary excerpts, and thought-provoking keynote addresses, The Baltimore Butterfly Sessions is a series of free community gatherings that will take place at Baltimore Center Stage throughout the 2019/20 season.

a??a??a??a??a??a??a??The American Opera Project (AOP), announces its selection of eight composers and librettists to receive fellowships for its 10th cycle of the Composers & the Voice training program. Composers Alaina Ferris, Matt Frey, Michael Lanci, Mary Prescott, Jessica Rudman, Tony Solitro, and librettists Amanda Hollander and Jonathan Turner, will each receive a 2-year, tuition-free fellowship that provides experience writing for the voice and opera stage. The fellows will work collaboratively with the following six singers, named as the 10th Composers & the Voice Resident Ensemble: Lyric Coloratura Soprano Justine Aronson, Lyric Soprano Jasmine Muhammad, Mezzo-Soprano Augusta Caso, Tenor Timothy Stoddard, Baritone Mario Diaz-Moresco and Bass-Baritone Brandon Coleman.

Atlanta Chinese Dance Company (ACDC) shares a rarely told story about Chinese Americans growing up in the South through an original production Ribbon Dance of Empowerment: Chinese Dance through the Eyes of an American on October 19-20 at the Infinite Energy Theater. Intertwining Chinese dance, history, and culture with personal storytelling by and about some of the nearly 100 dancers, the production celebrates the role the art form has played in their search for identity, belonging, and self-acceptance as Chinese Americans in the South.
