Now in its 16th season, Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook continues to expand its scope celebrating the best in American singing and songwriting. Featured over the weekend was revered composer, lyricist, and librettist Michael John LaChiusa- returning to American Songbook after his triumphant debut a decade ago. Known for his acclaimed Tony-nominated musicals Marie Christine and The Wild Party, his recent epic musical adaptation of Giant flourished at the Public Theater. Tony Award Winner Beth Leavel (Drowsy Chaperone; Baby It's You) will be performing in a benefit concert along with other Broadway performers Sunday, at the Laurie Beechman Theater, 407 West 42nd Street on Sunday, January 26 at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for dinner and drinks.

Rubicon's November/ December HOLIDAY CENTRAL calendar offers a sparkling array of more than 35 shows and events for all ages. The festivities begin with the return of a holiday revue with six Broadway singers and a local children's chorus; followed by a late-night adult comedy presented in a cabaret setting; a poetic reading of wartime love letters; and culminating with an enchanting new musical from the Tony and Olivier Award-winning director of Les Miserables and Nicholas Nickleby and the creators of Jane Eyre and Daddy Long Legs, who will have a five-week residency at Rubicon during the holidays.

BORN FOR BROADWAY 2013, the fourth annual celebrity cabaret, featuring Broadway and TV stars donating their time and talent to raise money for paralysis-based organizations, took place at 54 Below last Monday, Sept. 30. Carolee Carmello, David Friedman and Kathie Lee Gifford of the Broadway musical SCANDALOUS will appear for a 'Live at B&N' event featuring music from the show. The guests will sign copies of the new Broadway cast recording tonight, July 16, 2013 at 6 PM at the Barnes & Noble at 86th & Lexington Ave, NYC.

The lush music, the period costumes, and Andrew Samonsky's performance kept me involved. There's some trimming to be done, and some rewriting, and maybe it will work for fans of the movie. But there could be so much more.
