Royal Danish Ballet & Ragamala Dance Company Open Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival 2018

Minneapolis-based Ragamala Dance Company opens the 2018 Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival with a vibrant, contemporary take on the South Indian classical dance form Bharatnatyam in the Doris Duke Theatre, June 20-24. Praised for a "visionary approach to an ancient art form" (Dance Magazine), Artistic Directors and Doris Duke Performing Artist Awardees Ranee Ramaswamy and Aparna Ramaswamy honor the legacy of legendary Smt. Balasaraswati in an opening solo performance and present the evening-length work Written in Water, featuring a live ensemble of internationally celebrated musicians.

Texas Performing Arts Announces The 2018-19 ESSENTIAL SERIES

Celebrity Series Of Boston Announces 2018-2019 Season

The Celebrity Series of Boston announced its 2018-2019 season today, marking 80 years of bringing the world's greatest performing artists to Boston. In total, the 2018-2019 season will include 50 music, dance, and entertainment mainstage engagements, including a new artistic initiative to present three dance ensembles in their Boston debuts with live music at NEC's Plimpton Shattuck Black Box Theatre. The season will open on September 23 with Jazz Along the Charles, A Walkable Concert along the Charles River Esplanade featuring 25 jazz ensembles along a 2-mile loop. Neighborhood Arts will feature more than 150 workshops, classes, and concerts in schools and community venues performances across Boston.

Amir ElSaffar's Two Rivers Ensemble Plays “Jazz Club” At The Soraya, 4/26

The Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) continues its intimate "Jazz Club" performances with jazz trumpeter Amir ElSaffar and his Two Rivers Ensemble on Thursday, April 26 at 8:00pm. ElSaffar was born to an American mother and an Iraqi father. After studying classical music in the U.S. and Iraqi maqam music in Baghdad, he forged his own path by mixing ornaments and microtones from Arab music with melodies and harmonies from the West. His unique fusion has won him accolades from DownBeat magazine and rowdy ovations at the Newport Jazz Festival.

Harris Theater Announces 18-19 Mix At Six, Exelon Family Series

The Harris Theater announced last night the five artists and ensembles appearing in the 2018-19 Mix at Six series: British-Bahraini jazz trumpeter Yazz Ahmed, Afro-Cuban vocalist Dayme Arocena, Spanish guitarist Pablo Sainz Villegas, Quebecois circus arts ensemble Cirque Eloize, and some of the best young dancers from right here in our city - the Chicago Academy for the Arts Repertory Dance Company.

Miles Electric Band, featuring Davis Alumni Performs At The Soraya, 3/1

The Miles Electric Band, a progressive, All-Star ensemble of Miles Davis alumni who are revising the framework for modern jazz improvisation, will perform at the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) on Thursday, March 1 at 8:00pm.  The avant-garde collective revisits repertoire from Davis' electric period (1968 - 1975) in paying homage to The Chief.  The band represents two generations of players: Davis' contemporaries and the next generation.

Meredith Monk to Receive 24th Annual Dorothy & Lillian Gish Prize

The Gish Prize Trust today announced that the widely influential, utterly inimitable Meredith Monk has been selected to receive the 24th annual Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize, in recognition of her ongoing achievements as a composer, singer and interdisciplinary artist. Established in 1994 through the will of legendary stage and screen actress Lillian Gish, known as the First Lady of Cinema, the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize is one of the most prestigious honors given to artists in the United States and bears one of the largest cash awards, currently valued at approximately $250,000.
