Philadelphia Theatre Company Announces Extension for RIZZO

Philadelphia Theatre Company announces a one-week-only extension of Rizzo by Bruce Graham through Sunday, October 23.  Currently running at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets) and directed by Joe Canuso in a re-mounting of Theatre Exile's sold-out production last fall, the ensemble cast features Scott Greer as Frank Rizzo with Damon Bonetti, Paul L. Nolan, Robert DaPonte, William Rahill, Amanda Schoonover, and Steven Wright.  The extra week includes performances on Tuesday at 6:30 PM,Wednesday at 7:00 PM, Thursday through Today at 8:00 PM and matinees today at 2:00 PM and Sunday at 3:00 PM.

New York Times best-selling humorist Josh Piven brings his unique brand of comedy to Philadelphia with the world premiere of Muddled, A Stage Comedy, from June 16 through June 26 at Drexel URBN Annex (3401 Filbert St). Penned by the author of The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook and directed by William Steinberger, Muddled gives theater audiences a best-case scenario for what happens when a group of hot-headed headbangers meet the home-grown hipsters of Brooklyn. In this craft brewed comedy, Piven trades navigating alligator pits for navigating mosh pits, and surviving frostbite for surviving the frosty bite of a quick-witted hipster. Muddled is Piven's second play, following 2013's hit No Reservations.

The classic Tennessee Williams play THE GLASS MENAGERIE is a show that paints a picture from personal truth and the emotional watercolors of memory. It is a beautifully written play with affecting dialog and themes. This show draws the audience into the story as soon as Tom, the narrator, steps on the stage to explain what the audience is about to see is a "memory play," where each scene is a crucial memory in Tom's life. Tom discloses, "I give you truth in the pleasant disguise of illusion." The production of THE GLASS MENAGERIE at Act II Playhouse, under the direction of James J. Christy, is seamless and it captures the essence of Williams's work with graceful precision.

In March, Azuka Theatre continues its season with the World Premiere of Jacqueline Goldfinger's Skin & Bone. Azuka Theatre to Include SKIN AND BONE, TIGERS BE STILL & More in 2013-14 Season

Azuka Theatre's 14th Season will take audiences on a New York City subway ride, a tiger hunt through suburbia and back to a small northern Florida town that might seem eerily familiar. The season opens with the Philadelphia Premiere of Dutch Masters by Greg Keller. Then it continues with the World Premiere of Jacqueline Goldfinger's Skin & Bone, the second part of a trilogy she started with the terrible girls. The season concludes with the Philadelphia Premiere of Tigers Be Still by Kim Rosenstock. Azuka will also bring back the I Love You, I Hate You Happy Hour - an annual Valentine's Day event that now runs two nights and the tenth year of the Spotlight Series, a week of readings featuring plays and playwrights under consideration for future Azuka seasons. Subscriptions range in price from $45-$60. Subscriptions go on sale July 1 and individual tickets go on sale August 1.All shows are performed at the Off Broad Street Theater at 1636 Sansom Street. Mauckingbird Theatre Company Presents BAD SEED, 1/25-27

Mauckingbird Theatre Company, best known for its clever, poignant reflection on classic works through a gay lens, takes on a new kind of classic with a staged reading of the 1950s play Bad Seed by Maxwell Anderson. Directed by Mauckingbird Artistic Director Peter Reynolds, the reading includes performances by Barrymore Award winner Amanda Schoonover as 9-year-old Rhoda Penmark, the titular "bad seed," and Michelle Eugene as her suffering mother Christine Penmark. The Bad Seed runs for one weekend only, January 25-27, at the Off-Broad Street Theater. Philadelphia's own Martha Graham Cracker will serve as hostess for the reading, which benefits Mauckingbird, Philadelphia's award-winning professional gay-themed theatre company.
