Leeds Playhouse and Nottingham Playhouse have announced the full cast who will star the regional premiere of Natasha Gordon's critically acclaimed play NINE NIGHT. This comedic and heartfelt production will play in Leeds from 24 September – 15 October ahead of transferring to Nottingham from 19 October – 5 November.

Leeds Playhouse has revealed today the full range of ambitious productions that make up its exciting Autumn/Winter 2022 Season, showcasing creative collaboration, deep-rooted partnerships, and exciting and diverse voices from across the UK.

This autumn, Leeds Playhouse is proud to present Natasha Gordon’s critically acclaimed debut play NINE NIGHT in co-production with Nottingham Playhouse. Its three-week run on the Courtyard stage is in partnership with the OUT OF MANY FESTIVAL, which takes its name from the Jamaican national motto Out of Many, One People.

The anti-racism rider and toolkit is launched today as a step towards more equitable working conditions for touring shows and events. In response to personal testimonies and feedback from over 100 freelancers, co-ordinated by a group of 15 national touring theatre companies, and spearheaded by Amanda Huxtable, Rowan Rutter (HighTide), Richard Twyman (English Touring Theatre) and Lian Wilkinson (New Earth Theatre).

The event is hosted by The Black Magic Networks Co-founder Annika Allen, with special guest pre-recorded performances on the night from multi award winning Actors, Sharon D Clarke MBE, Amanda Huxtable, Judith Jacob, Jade Samuels, Everal A Walsh, Flo Wilson and a live reading from the writer herself.

Since 1978, West Bank Cafe has been one of the epicenters of New York City’s theatre community, and due to the pandemic, it is on the verge of permanently closing. With Broadway dark, tourism down, indoor dining closed, and no relief plan in sight, 2020 has created a plethora of financial problems for the beloved theater district institution. 

Eclipse Theatre have today published a report revealing the impact of an ambitious three-year programme supporting Black artists, and fellow artists marginalised for their race, in the North of England.

An Open Letter has been written to Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for Culture, from black, Asian, and ethnically diverse theatre artistic directors and cultural leaders. The letter was written to emphasize the importance  of protecting representation in the sector.

Eclipse Theatre, the UK's leading Black theatre company, has announced that its pioneering Eclipse Award will return for a second year.

Eclipse Theatre has announced two new appointments in senior management. In December 2019 Amanda Huxtable will become the new Artistic Director and CEO, and Shawab Iqbal will join the company as Executive Producer. Currently in Sheffield and moving to Leeds, Eclipse is the foremost Black-led national touring company in the UK, developing new artists and delivering diverse programming in theatre, film and radio across the country.

Acclaimed theatre-maker Tayo Aluko will shine a spotlight on the fascinating story of Britain's first black judge in a new play coming to the Belgrade Theatre this spring. Showing in Coventry for one day only on Saturday 19 May, Just An Ordinary Lawyer follows the true story of singer, cricketer and barrister Tunji Sowande.

Previews began yesterday for the world premiere of I HATE MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL and audiences loved it! Simpsons' television writer and producer Mike Reiss has created a modern day Scrooge story of a cranky comedy writer trapped in the rubble of an LA earthquake. His life plays out before his eyes in the form of a musical -- and he hates musicals! With numbers sung by everyone from Sigmund Freud and Satan, will he learn to be less cranky?
