Theatre producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh has today (17 May 2019) announced a gift of £1 million to Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London.

Hit British musical Everybody's Talking About Jamie has already had a dream run, going from Sheffield to the Apollo Theatre in London's West End, and attracting both critical acclaim and numerous awards.

Ahead of the opening of their new season and their 40th anniversary next year, Artistic Director of Polka Theatre, Peter Glanville, today announces that Amanda Holden will join the theatre as a new Patron. Holden has been specifically brought on to support the upcoming Future Polka capital development which is scheduled to begin next year.

A big hit at Sheffield Crucible, new British musical Everybody's Talking About Jamie - based on a documentary about a teenage boy coming out as a drag queen - is now a hit in the West End. This week Tobacco Factory Theatres launches its most ambitious ever season of productions for Aug - Dec 2017, including five in-house productions throughout the autumn and at Christmas. In addition, the theatre announces a new chapter in its history: the creation of the Factory Company which will perform two electrifying plays between February and May 2018.

Playwright Jake Brunger and composer Pippa Cleary have been creating musicals together since they met at Bristol University in 2008. Their work includes Jet Set Go!, The Great British Soap Opera and an adaptation of Sue Townsend's beloved The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 . The latter begins a London run at the Menier Chocolate Factory this week.

Maria Friedman directs a brand new staging of Richard Harris's award-winning play STEPPING OUT, which which toured UK venues last year and now plays at the West End's Vaudeville Theatre. Book tickets here from £20

Last night, STEPPING OUT opened at the Vaudeville Theatre (read our review here). The production stars Amanda Holden, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Nicola Stephenson, Judith Barker, Jessica-Alice McCluskey, Sandra Marvin and Dominic Rowan, directed by Maria Friedman. For the first part of the West End run, Anna-Jane Casey steps in for the injured Tamzin Outhwaite.

Never mind stepping out - the real wonder of this production is Anna-Jane Casey stepping in for the injured Tamzin Outhwaite at short notice. It's a plot twist worthy of the backstage shenanigans in Richard Harris's genial 1984 play about the members of a weekly tap class, and Casey's superb turn - and smooth integration into the ensemble - equally in keeping with its triumphant community spirit.

The West End production of Stepping Out opens for preview performances tonight, Wednesday 1 March at the Vaudeville Theatre. The heart-warming comedy charts the lives of seven women and one man attempting to tap their troubles away at a weekly dancing class led by their ever patient teacher, Mavis.

The wonderful thing about fringe theatre is the variety and quality of what can be produced in a tiny space, with very little budget. Creativity is key to make an audience return to what is essentially the back room of a pub with slightly uncomfortable seating. Madam Butterfly is the latest creative offering from the King's Head Theatre, who has a well-known reputation for producing innovative and unique shows in such a room.
