Well after Broadway orchestra's begin their overtures, ensemble members take their dance breaks, and performers belt out their eleven- o'clock numbers, the party continues at various cabaret venues throughout New York City. FirstWorks, Providence's premiere performing arts curator, announced that tonight, October 18, 2014, 8:00 pm at the RISD Auditorium, Carter will perform a special open-to-the-public concert after her multi-day FirstWorks' Arts Learning Residency, engaging with students across Rhode Island. Known for her soulful and rooted blending of musical genres, Carter will perform tracks from her latest Southern Comfort album, a continuation of her quest to explore her family roots through the sounds of the violin.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series celebrated a musical trifecta on Monday night, with sublime jazz vocalist Jane Monheit, extraordinary arrangements by Mary Ann McSweeney, and a wealth of Irving Berlin material. The stellar backup band for the evening evening included McSweeney on bass, Jim Ridl on piano, and Alvester Garnett on drums. Several months ago, the Monheit-McSweeney duo teamed up with a swinging take on Cole Porter's iconic score for Anything Goes, to great acclaim.

It was announced today during a live appearance from the stage of the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, that Multi-Platinum recording artist and actress Vanessa Williams is set to join the roster of 'Special Guest Star' vocalists in the critically acclaimed Broadway musical, After Midnight. Williams will play performances from Tuesday, April 1, 2014 through Sunday, May 11, 2014 at theBrooks Atkinson Theatre (256 W 47th Street). On Monday, March 26, the Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present jazz vocalist Jane Monheit in 'Jane Monheit Swings Cole Porter's Anything Goes.' The evening was the creation of arranger/bass player MaryAnn McSweeney, who also brought the wildly popular 'Avenue Q Swings' to the Birdland stage several years ago.
The Broadway at Birdland concert series announced that jazz vocalist Jane Monheit will be performing new Mary Ann McSweeney arrangements of the Cole Porter classic, Anything Goes on Monday, March 26 at 7pm. Robert Creighton will be Jane's special guest.
