Atlanta's Tony Award winning Alliance Theatre presents the world premiere musical, Troubadour, by playwright Janece Shaffer (The Geller Girls, Broke) with original music by Grammy Award-winning recording artist Kristian Bush. Set in 1950s Nashville, Troubadour is a romantic comedy about an unlikely group of friends whose unconventional style changes the course of country music. Troubadour is directed by the Alliance's Jennings Hertz Artistic Director Susan V. Booth (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Geller Girl) and runs on the Alliance Stage from January 18 - February 12, 2017. BroadwayWorld has a peek inside the first rehearsal below!

2Cents Theatre presents BRILLIANT TRACES, written by Cindy Lou Johnson and directed by Kristen Boule.  BRILLIANT TRACES will preview on Saturday, January 7 at 8pm &Sunday, January 8 at 7pm and will open on Friday, January 13 and run through Sunday, February 11 at the Underground Theatre, 1314 N. Wilton Place in Hollywood.

Pegasus Theatre Chicago is proud to announce the authors and plays being presented at the 30th Young Playwrights Festival, January 4 - 29 at Pegasus's resident home Chicago Dramatists, 773 N. Aberdeen. This year's world premieres, written by high school students and given a staged professional production, explore the theme of 'Assumptions.' Each winning production is performed in tandem Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. with weekday student matinees. Laguna Playhouse Artistic Director Ann E. Wareham is thrilled to announce the third show in the Laguna Playhouse 2016-2017 season, CHAPATTI, written by Christian O'Reilly and directed by David Ellenstein, based on the direction of Judith Ivey. 'I just fell in love with this play and the beautiful and quirky love story at its center.  I think our audiences are about to fall in love with it too,' says Wareham.  CHAPATTI will begin previews on Wednesday, January 11; will open on Sunday, January 15 at 5:30pm and will run through Sunday, January 29, 2016 at the Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach.

Katori Hall's Olivier Award-winning play, The Mountaintop, kicks off 2017 at Trinity Repertory Company and continues the 53rd season, Ghosts of the Past, Dreams of the Future.

Alysha Deslorieux, J. Quinton Johnson, Bryan Terrell Clark, Taran Killam and Anthony Lee Medina will join the Broadway cast of Hamilton in principal roles, it has been announced by producer Jeffrey Seller.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, has announced the recipients of the third round of the 2016 Edgerton Foundation New Play Awards. The awards, totaling $669,000, allow 16 productions extra time in the development and rehearsal of new plays with the entire creative team, helping to extend the life of the play after its first run.

The Alliance Theatre is pleased to announce the three artistic projects chosen for development during its third annual Reiser Atlanta Artists Lab.  Each project will receive $10,000 to use toward further exploration and development, as well as access to the Alliance's artistic, educational, and production staffs, and rehearsal spaces.  The lab productions will be presented in free performances May 15-17, 2017.

New American Folk Theatre is pleased to present the Midwest premiere of DEEP IN THE HEART OF TUNA, the newest installment of the comedic 'Tuna' series, which has entertained audiences across the U.S for over 25 years (Greater Tuna, "A Tuna Christmas, "Red, White and Tuna" and Tuna Does Vegas). Written by Ed Howard, Joe Sears and Jaston Williams and directed by Derek Van Barham, DEEP IN THE HEART OF TUNA will play February 4 - March 5, 2017 at the new Pride Arts Center (The Buena Theatre), 4147 N. New Dramatist playwright Melisa Tien and San Francisco-based Megan Cohen joined The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in residence this month to develop innovative stage works with the Academy's third year NY Company.

Artistic Director Kenny Leon and True Colors Theatre Company presents the Southeastern premiere of Exit Strategy written by Ike Holter and directed by John Dillon, running February 21 - March 19, 2017 at Fulton County's Southwest Arts Center's Performance Theater. 

Pittsburgh CLO presents its 25th Anniversary production of A Musical Christmas Carol this month at the Byham Theater. This production will feature exciting new set elements and special effects.

Artistic Director Les Waters and Managing Director Kevin E. Moore are delighted to announce the cast and creative team for Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill. Abingdon Theatre Company kicks off 2017 with a limited engagement of THE DORK KNIGHT, a new play written and performed by Jason O'Connell (star of Bedlam's recent Off-Broadway hit Sense and Sensibility) about his complicated relationship with the Caped Crusader.

Celebrating 10 seasons of Roundabout Underground, Roundabout Theatre Company has announced the sixth annual Roundabout Underground Reading Series, a five-night event that includes nightly readings of new works written and directed by emerging artists, as well as post-show receptions. The Reading Series will feature new works by Saheem Ali, Emily Feldman, Alex Lubischer, Don Nguyen, Ming Peiffer and Michael Thurber.
