2010 marked the year the legendary American Composer Stephen Sondheim had his 80th Birthday, and there were many celebrations in his honour. The last one was a celebration at Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops under the direction of Steven Reineke. Kate Baldwin, Christiane Noll, Aaron Lazar and Alex Gemignani came out to sing the music and honour the man, and BWW featured interviews with each of them before the show. The first round of auditions for NYMF's Next Broadway sensation took place last Sunday night at New World Stages, with the live audience and the panel of judges, Bailey Hanks, Orfeh (Legally Blonde) and Marc Kudisch (9 to 5) selecting five finalists with a sixth finalist chosen by online voters who were able to see all of the performance at Theatermania.com thanks to DFD TV.
On Monday, Broadway's best singers gathered on the Town Hall stage to perform some of the funniest, most dramatic, most rousing and most poignant showstoppers from musicals. Ably directed by Scott Thompdon and musically guided by musical director Fred Barton (who must surely have an aging portrait locked in at attic somewhere, and who performed mere days after sustaining injuries in a car accident), the evening represented songs ranging from jazz standards by Eubie Blake to this year's Tony winner for best score, Next to Normal.

On Wednesday June 11, 2008 the Theatre World Awards for Outstanding Broadway or Off-Broadway Debut performances during the 2007-2008 theatrical season took place. The awards were presented by former Theatre World Award winners, including: Alec Baldwin (Loot, 1986), Griffin Dunne (Search and Destroy, 1992), Alexander Gemignani (Assassins, 2004), Andrea Martin (My Favorite Year, 1993), Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, 2007), Rosie Perez (References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot, 2001), and B.D. Wong (M. Butterfly, 1988). There were also be performances by former Theatre World Award winners, including: Karen Akers (Nine, 1982), Cheyenne Jackson (All Shook Up, 2005), Carol Lawrence (West Side Story, 1958) and Alice Playten (Henry, Sweet Henry, 1968).
