Following the successes of the first half of this season-from the multiple Helen Hayes Award nominations for Salome and Kiss Me, Kate, to the critical acclaim of The Critic and The Real Inspector Hound-Artistic Director Michael Kahn announced today the Shakespeare Theatre Company's 2016-2017 season. Kahn has put together a season of new debuts of both artists and works, and one with innovative adaptations and classic tragedies that continue STC's mission to re-think, re-work, and re-introduce classic texts and themes to its contemporary D.C. audiences.

The Manhattan Transfer performed at Jan McArts Live at Lynn Series in Boca Raton last night and BroadwayWorld was there. Check out the photos below. The legendary vocal group founded by Tim Hauser in 1969 has won 10 Grammy Awards and 20 nominations. The audiences at the groups two sold out concerts were treated to many famous arrangements from the groups storied song book. Among others the Boca audience heard, Candy, Operator, Birdland, (for which Janis Siegel won a Grammy Award for best arrangement), and Route 66. Alan Paul, Janis Siegel, Cheryl Bentyne, and Trist Curless also displayed their vocal expertise in some great solos.

In an effort to continue its vision to provide a training ground for the next generation of theatre artists, the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) has launched its first-ever Directors' Studio, a series of workshops and discussions designed to investigate the craft of theatrical direction created for local, early-career directors. By application, six directors have been selected for the 2015-2016 season's Directors' Studio: Catrin Rowenna Davies, Rick Hammerly, Lee Liebeskind, Carter Lowe, Angela Kay Pirko, and Jason Schlasfstein.

At its 2015 Harman Center for the Arts Gala, the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) will present renowned theatre, film and opera director Julie Taymor with the 2015 William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre (Will Award), which recognizes artists who have made significant contributions to classical theatre in America. JM Zell Partners, Ltd. will receive the Sidney Harman Award for Philanthropy in the Arts. Dame Helen Mirren (Academy Award winner and star of Taymor's film The Tempest) will be a special guest at the black-tie event, themed "Imagine: Shakespeare."

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) has chosen Julie Taymor as the 2015 recipient of the William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre (Will Award), which recognizes artists who have made significant contributions to classical theatre in America. JM Zell Partners, Ltd. will receive the Sidney Harman Award for Philanthropy in the Arts. Tony Award nominee Brandon Uranowitz, currently appearing in An American in Paris, joins the cast of the 2015 Will on the Hill event at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. A favorite bipartisan event of theatre and political fans alike, Will on the Hill returns to the Shakespeare Theatre Company on Monday, June 15, 2015. The cast will also feature special guest performers, STC Affiliated Artist Edward Gero and Samira Wiley, known for her role in Orange is the New Black.

The annual Will on the Hill event welcomes Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle and distinguished Washington insiders onto the Shakespeare Theatre Company stage to perform a political satire infused with Shakespearean language and references. The event pays tribute to the unique dynamic of our city and provides a wonderful way to engage new audiences. Proceeds from this event support STC's many education, artistic, and community engagement programs including in-school workshops and online learning resources that inspire new and diverse audiences and deepen the connection to classical theatre in learners of all ages. Will on the Hill will take place in Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW), and begins with a VIP cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m., and a buffet dinner immediately after the performance.
