The Thunderous Sounds Of 'Kodo'

Legendary Publicist Charlie Cinnamon to Receive 'Champion of the Arts Award' on March 11th in Miami

On Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the 'Citizens Interested in Arts' Membership Luncheon in Miami Beach, Florida, the prestigous organization's first-ever 'Champion of the Arts' Award will be presented to legendary publicist Charlie Cinnamon at the newly renovated, historic Eden Roc Hotel, in the Ocean Tower Ballroom. Presenting him with the award will be longtime friend, director/producer Richard Jay-Alexander.

Kennedy Center Announces 'Arts in Crisis' Initiative for Emergency Arts Planning

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced Arts in Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative, a program designed to provide emergency planning assistance to struggling arts organizations throughout the United States. Expanding on previously existing arts management programs at the Kennedy Center, Arts in Crisis will provide free consulting from both Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser and members of the Kennedy Center's executive staff.

Hamlisch And Thompson Highlight Arsht Concert Season

As composer, Hamlisch has won virtually every major entertainment award that exists: three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globe awards; his groundbreaking show, A Chorus Line, received the Pulitzer Prize. He is the composer of more than forty motion picture scores including his Oscar-winning score and song for The Way We Were and his adaptation of Scott Joplin's music for The Sting, for which he received a third Oscar.

Florida's Arsht Center Is A Hit

Upcoming and current performances at the Adrienne Arsht Center include The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged,) November 26-January 18; Bossa Nova: The First Fifty Years (part of the ongoing Jazz Roots series,) December 12; an encore presentation of the free Gospel concert series (sponsored by the Knight Arts Partnership,) December 14, February 15, March 15, April 19, and May 17; and the Firebird Chamber Orchestra's performance of Handel's Messiah, December 19.

Tony Winning Best Musical 'Annie'

The original Broadway production of ANNIE won seven 1977 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Book and Score. It ran for 2,377 performances and has subsequently been produced all over the world. The original production is one of the top 20 longest running shows in Broadway history, and ANNIE continues to be one of the most successful musicals ever.

'Flamenco Festival Miami 2009'

Following last season's sold-out celebration, FLAMENCO FESTIVAL MIAMI - 'the hottest flamenco event in the country' (World Music Central) - returns by popular demand to South Florida with a month-long celebration throughout February 2009. Presented by the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County and PerilloMusic, FLAMENCO FESTIVAL MIAMI will feature three headlining performances: ANTONIO GADES COMPANY in the U.S. premiere of CARMEN on February 12; Flamenco royalty ESTRELLA MORENTE on February 19; and LOS FARRUCO - the first family of flamenco dance - on February 28.

Free Admission For All - Arsht Center's 'Family Fest'

The first FAMILY FEST (Saturday, November 1) is a celebration of the new nationally touring production of The Wizard of Oz, which is being presented on stage at the Center through November 2. Everyone is invited to the Center's outdoor Plaza to meet Dorothy and her friends; listen to professional storytellers; and sing along to the classic 'Ding Dong the Witch is Dead' with 70 youngsters from all over Miami-Dade County.

Film Classic 'The Wizard Of Oz' Lands On Miami Stage

'There is no better show to introduce your family to the dream of Broadway and live theater than THE WIZARD OF OZ,' says Susie Krajsa, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Broadway Across America. 'Over the years, THE WIZARD OF OZ has become an American icon and there are many testaments to it's longstanding place in our history. The original film is on the American Film Institutes (AFI's) top 10 movies of all time and the song 'Over the Rainbow' is ranked in AFI's top 100 songs. The ruby red slippers worn by Judy Garland are on view at the Smithsonian.'

'Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (Abridged&Revised)'

Along the way, RSC captured nominations for London's Olivier Award, two Helen Hayes Awards in Washington, D.C., and international appearances at the White House, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Seattle Repertory Theatre, and American Repertory Theatre. International tours included stops in Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Malta, Belgium, The Netherlands, Singapore, Bermuda and Barbados.

'The Wizard Of Oz' National Tour Auditions

This celebration of the iconic 1939 MGM film starring Judy Garland, THE WIZARD OF OZ will blow South Floridians away from the moment the tornado touches down and transports audiences to a an art deco Oz, complete with Munchkins and flying monkeys as audiences are invited to travel 'Over the Rainbow' and experience THE WIZARD OF OZ on stage.

Winter In Miami - 'Slava's Snowshow' Extends Run

Produced by David J. Foster and Ross Mollision, SLAVA'S SNOWSHOW is the creation of Russian-born Slava Poulin. Inspired by the most famous mime artists of all time, including Charlie Chaplin, Marcel Marceau and Engibaro, Slava has dedicated his life since the age of 17 to re-claiming and re-establishing the art and craft of the true clown. After founding his own theater company 'Litsedei' in 1979, Slava has taken clowning out of the circus and into the streets, and from there to the major theaters around the world. Since its debut in 1993, the show has traveled to over 25 countries, performing to more than 2.5 million patrons in 80 cities including London, Toronto, Paris, Rome, Lisbon, and Berlin
