Virginia Children's Theatre Announces Scholarship Recipients

Producing Artistic Director Brett J. Roden, the staff and board of Virginia Children's Theatre (VCT) are pleased to announce the recipients of the annual scholarships awarded by VCT. Ben Armstrong will receive the Sarabeth Hammond Scholarship and Ronin Ramey will receive the ARD Properties Scholarship for the 2022-2023 Season. 

Gateway Theatre's SONGS OF SUMMER to Present Afternoon Fun For The Family This Weekend

As last year's Songs of Summer evening concerts were a hit, Gateway Theatre has decided to expand and offer a special afternoon full of fun for families and children on August 27th. Taking place in the grassy area just outside the theatre, the whole family is invited to enjoy a memorable and lively performance.

 Inspired by the little-known, larger-than-life true story of Robert Smalls, the first African American hero of the Civil War, Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum presents the world premiere of Trouble the Water, freely adapted by Ellen Geer from the 2019 award-winning historical novel by Rebecca Dwight Bruff.

Rodgers And Hammerstein's OKLAHOMA! Returns To Interlochen

The Interlochen Arts Academy Theatre Division will bring an iconic love story to life this spring with their new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Tony Award-winning musical Oklahoma! at Corson Auditorium. Performances will take place Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, May 7 at 2:00 and 7:30 p.m.

RED SKY AT NIGHT Will Tour Beginning in May

The prolific Huddersfield theatre company Mikron is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary tour this May with the premiere of Red Sky at Night, Lindsay Rodden's (Here, Northern Stage and Curious Monkey and The Story Giant, Everyman Theatre Liverpool) new play about the nation's obsession with the wild and wonderful world of weather.

Detroit Public Television To Broadcast Interlochen Arts Academy's ROMEO AND JULIET Ballet, April 24

Detroit Public TV will broadcast Interlochen Arts Academy's Romeo & Juliet ballet to commemorate William Shakespeare's birthday weekend. “A Detroit Performs Special Event: Interlochen Arts Academy presents Romeo & Juliet” will air on DPTV at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 24. The broadcast will also be made available on demand at dptv.org and via the PBS Video app. 

Mikron Theatre Company Will Remount RAISING AGENTS

Mikron Theatre, one of the country’s most versatile touring theatre companies, is delighted to announce that from April it will commence celebrations of 50 years of touring with an exciting remount of its hugely successful 2015 production of Maeve Larkin’s (Best Foot Forward, Mikron Theatre) play about the Women’s Institute- Raising Agents.

City Theatre to Receive $100,000 National Endowment for the Arts Grant

City Theatre has announced approval for an American Rescue Plan award from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), a grant program which was funded to help the arts and cultural sector recover from the pandemic. City Theatre is recommended to receive $100,000 and may use this funding to preserve jobs and to fund operations and facilities, health and safety supplies, and marketing and promotional efforts to encourage attendance and participation.  

AVENUE Q Comes to the Academy Theatre Next Week

The laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that, although the residents seem nice, it's clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

BWW Preview: California Premiere of GAVROCHE Musical will Take Place at Idyllwild Arts Academy

GAVROCHE, a new musical based on Victor Hugo's novel, 'Les Misérables,' with book, music, and lyrics by Bonnie Gleicher, is having its California premiere at the Idyllwild Arts Academy. Idyllwild Arts' theatre department chair, Bonnie Carpenter, is directing the production, whose cast is made up entirely of Academy theatre arts students in grades ten through twelve. GAVROCHE will run from December 3rd-5th.

PIPPIN Will Be Performed by Interlochen Arts Academy This Week

The 37th longest-running production in Broadway history, Pippin features music by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Roger Hinson (with additional material by Bob Fosse). The musical’s original 1972 production earned 11 Tony nominations, including nods for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.

THE NUTCRACKER Makes its Return to the Roxey Ballet This Holiday Season
