Who isn't familiar with SINGIN' IN THE RAIN? The classic MGM film musical is arguably a perfect film musical, full of great songs, amazing dancing and memorable characters. Setting out to put this film on stage is a monumental task that requires a faithful enough recreation that it doesn't disappoint a legion of fans, yet has to be it's own original stage creation. Now playing on ZACH Theatre's Topfer Stage is a delightful version that manages to pay just the right amount of tribute while being thrillingly entertaining in its own right.

PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT: THE MUSICAL is a jukebox musical adapted from Australian film director-writer Stephan Elliott's 1994 film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Adapted by Elliott and Allan Scott, the musical uses well-known pop and disco songs as the score. It tells the story of two drag queens and a transgender woman who make a trip from Sydney across the desert in a bus they name Priscilla to do a drag show in the resort town of Alice Springs in the Australian desert. Along the way, they encounter a slew of odd characters, homophobia and love in the most unexpected of places. The original production debuted in Australia at the Lyric Theatre, Sydney in October 2006. The Australian success of the show lead to a two-year West End production and finally the Bette Midler produced Broadway debut in 2011. The production now on stage at Zach Theatre is one of the first regional productions of the show.

A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM is the musical equivalent of the perfect summer beach read -- funny, not too demanding, and everything works right out in the end. The current production at Broadway Rose fulfills all of these expectations and gives you a tune to hum on your way home (I've been amusing myself with 'Comedy Tonight' for days).
ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS by Richard Bean is an English adaptation of The Servant of Two Masters, the 1743 Commedia dell'arte play by Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. Bean has replaced the original Italian setting with 1963 Brighton. It first opened at the National Theatre in 2011, toured the UK and then opened in the West End in November 2011, with a subsequent Broadway opening in April 2012.
The basic premise centers on eternally ravenous Francis Henshall (Martin Burke) who ends up being employed by two men at the same time: Roscoe Crabbe, a local gangster, and Stanley Stubbers (Tyler Jones), an upper class criminal. Francis works frantically at keeping the two from meeting, so that neither finds out that Francis is working for two men at the same time. What no one knows is Roscoe is really Rachel Crabbe (Amy Downing) in disguise. Her twin brother Roscoe was killed by her lover, Stanley Stubbers. Subplots include Pauline Clench (Madison Weinhoffer) who was to marry Roscoe in an arranged marriage by her father Charlie "The Duck" Clench (Michael Stuart) but is planning to elope with amateur actor Alan Dangle (Andre Martin).

David Sedaris wrote 'SantaLand Diaries', an essay that is a humorous account of Sedaris' stint working as a Christmas elf in 'SantaLand' at Macy's department store. Sedaris first read the essay on NPR's Morning Edition on December 23, 1992. Well-received, it became Sedaris' first major break. In 1996, Joe Mantello adapted Sedaris' essay for the stage as a one-man, one-act play, which debuted (as THE SANTALAND DIARIES) at the Atlantic Theater Company in New York on November 7, 1996. Mantello's adaptation has since become a seasonal staple of regional, college and high-school theatre.
