Review: MJ - Yet Another Bio-Jukebox Musical, but A Dazzling Performance Nonetheless

'MJ' was a slick production with an extremely talented cast who executed some elite singing and dancing, and I know that the show is a crowd-favorite currently with numerous Tony Awards under its belt. Still, it did not strike me as significantly better or even different than any of the other bio-jukebox musicals that have been coming out.

Photo Flash: Children's Theatre Company Presents CINDERELLA

Children's Theatre Company is bringing back the magical, fantastical, and all-too-hilarious Cinderella, directed by Peter C. Brosius. Originally created by CTC, this panto style musical mixes together the heart-warming story of Cinderella (played by new Acting Company member Rajané Katurah) and a Victorian Christmas party with lavish period costumes, grandiose sets and holiday carols, with pop culture references, shameless physical comedy, audience participation, and gut-busting gags.

The Park Square Presents The Summer Mystery You've Been Waiting For

Park Square Theatre's summer fare continues on the Proscenium Stage with the regional premiere of AGATHA CHRISTIE'S RULE OF THUMB (July 12 - August 25, 2019). Directed by local powerhouse Austene Van*, the evening featured three one-act murder mysteries by the most-read mystery writer of all time - Dame Agatha Christie. In The Wasp's Nest, Hercule Poirot comes between a bitter triangle of lovers to prevent a sinister murder; in The Rats, adulterous lovers find themselves lured to a flat, only to be framed for murder; and completing the triple bill is a tense thriller about a woman who is hospitalized after seemingly falling from her balcony in The Patient.

Actor Rajane Katurah Joins Children's Theatre Company's Acting Company

Children's Theatre Company (CTC) announced today that actor Rajane Katurah will join CTC's Acting Company beginning with the 2019-2020 Season. Rajane relocated to Minnesota in 2017 when she accepted the offer to become one of the 2017-2018 Performing Apprentices and has most recently received rave reviews for her performance in Park Square Theatre's Marie and Rosetta. During her time as a CTC Performing Apprentice, she performed roles in Dr. Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas, The Wiz, and Dr. Seuss's The Lorax, which was performed both at CTC as well as The Old Globe in San Diego, California. She joins as the fifth Acting Company member alongside Autumn Ness, Dean Holt, Gerald Drake, and Reed Sigmund.

Park Square's Area Premiere Of MARIE AND ROSETTA, Celebrates The Music Of Marie Tharpe

Park Square Theatre announces the area premiere production of Marie & Rosetta by George Brandt, to be directed by Wendy Knox, who directed the early workshops of the play at the Minneapolis-based Playwrights' Center. Soulful and spirited, this play with music tells the story of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, a 2018 inductee into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame who has become a Facebook sensation with tens of thousands of shares of the vintage video of her playing electric guitar on the street cropping up in feeds for the past several years. Tharpe brought fierce guitar playing and swing to gospel music and went on to influence rock musicians from Elvis to Jimi Hendrix and Ray Charles.

BWW Review: THE LORAX is a Fantastical Fable at The Old Globe

THE LORAX is a fantastic fable, one that seems as apt for today as when the book was written in 1971. Playing at The Old Globe through August 12th. For information on tickets and showtimes go to www.theoldglobe.org

Photo Flash: Children's Theatre Company Brings Back Dr. Seuss's HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS

Children's Theatre Company (CTC) announces the reprise of audience favorite Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas for the holidays, a production that has delighted since its world premiere at CTC in 1994. The Grinch was Dr. Seuss's first villain, and it is said that he appeared to the author as he looked in the mirror on December 26, 1956; what he saw in his grumpy countenance was the disdain for the commercialization of the holiday, a very Grinchy image, and that was how the Grinch was born. This piece is both a critique of commercialization and a celebration of community, and has become Dr. Seuss's most enduring piece.
