Writer, organizer, and educator Mahogany L. Browne will receive the second annual Marian MacDowell Arts Advocacy Award on behalf of Urban Word – one of the oldest and most comprehensive youth literary arts organizations in the country – during MacDowell’s National Benefit to be held virtually December 7, 2021.

Historian, author, visual artist, and MacDowell Board Chair Nell Painter will lead the second in a series of free virtual discussions about the arts and creativity on Thursday, May 6, at 7 p.m. ET with memoirist and theatre artist P. Carl and novelists Michael Chabon and Chang-rae Lee. 

The 2021 edition of Night of Ideas, previously titled A Night of Philosophy and Ideas, will bring together artists, writers, critics, historians, and philosophers from across Brooklyn and around the world for a six-hour exploration of today’s most pressing ideas, coordinated worldwide by the Institut Français.

Luminaries from the worlds of dance, TV and theater have been added to 92Y's free December online talks! Whoopi Goldberg, Judith Light, Kelly Ripa and more are set to be featured.

She takes over from novelist and screenwriter Michael Chabon, who has held the post of chairman at one the nation's leading contemporary arts organizations since December of 2010. The board unanimously appointed Painter at a meeting earlier this month.

Television icon and author Carol Burnett will appear at MacDowell NYC on Thursday evening, October 24, 2019, where she will be joined by acclaimed memoirists and MacDowell Fellows Amanda Stern and Nell Painter. The three authors will read from their published memoirs and discuss the unique challenges of the popular non-fiction form. MacDowell, one of the nation's leading contemporary arts organizations, recently opened a new audience engagement space on West 23rd Street.

The Kitchen presents a collaboration with The Racial Imaginary Institute (TRII) that expands upon the Institute's first year of research on Whiteness, what Claudia Rankine has described as  "a source of unquestioned power [that], as a 'bloc,' feels itself to be endangered even as it retains its hold on power."
