Morgaine Gooding-Silverwood Biography
Morgaine Gooding-Silverwood is a Chickasaw theatre artist and activist based in New York City. They recently received their master's in Performance Studies from The University of London and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and have a bachelor's degree in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Columbia University. Mo's theater embraces a lesbian aesthetic, one that centers women and femmes through process and performance, and builds community trust through ensemble work.Mo hopes to create theater that bridges the gaps between joy and justice, while staying rooted in an earnest commitment to indigenous values. As an activist, Mo co-created the Pedagogy of Dignity, an educational endeavor rooted in Theatre of the Oppressed and philosophical inquiry for incarcerated men and women, which they have used since 2015 to teach Shakespeare and Greek drama in correctional facilities throughout New York. Mo has trained with Theatre of The Oppressed NYC and Anne Bogart's SITI Company, and their work as been produced at Columbia University, RADA, the Corkscrew Theatre Festival, The University of Denver (where they served as an Artist in Residence) and at The Oklahoma Contemporary Museum.

Corkscrew Theater Festival, which runs July 10-August 3, inaugurates its Corkscrew Downstairs series of workshop productions this summer in the lower level theater at the Paradise Factory (64 East 4th Street, Manhattan). The four projects all take classic texts as a starting point, including A Doll's House, Twelfth Night, the poetry of Walt Whitman, and Leslie Feinberg's 1993 novel Stone Butch Blues. The Downstairs series shares one team of designers -Dan Daly (sets), Christina Tang (lights), and Cinthia Chen (props)-and one flexible repertory set, deepening the festival's focus on exploring collaboration in different forms.

Presented by The Brewing Dept. and Fortress Productions, this new summer theater festival provides early-career artists a high level of production support and features five world premieres and five readings performed in repertory over four weeks. Special attention has been given to theater makers who are developing work through innovative and unusual collaborative models. A majority of the participating artists identify as female.
